The burger challenge was fun and camera-worthy. The fast service and friendly staff added on to the whole experience. As for the burger, it was freshly cooked to order, and the patties were juicy, although the seasoning kinda varies, probably due to its size.

We ventured over to Bloomington on a Saturday evening to take my grandparents out for a bite to eat and found ourselves at Bubs. We were in the mood for a good burger and we definitely found it. They were seasoned perfectly and cooked just how we asked. My grandpa ordered chili for dinner and said he enjoyed it; plus it came in a bread bowl, you can’t beat that!
The service was on point. Our server was very sweet and attentive, along with the rest of the staff. The restaurant was clean and we liked looking at all the photos on the walls from people doing The Big Ugly. I will say it can get kind of loud in there due to the walls being stone, but we went early so we beat the dinner rush. Overall we will be back and perhaps even get ourselves a Big Ugly!

Wifey was craving a burger, and Hinkle’s and Farm are closed on Mondays so we stopped at Bub’s.
We were the only people in the dining room for several minutes, but it still took awhile for our server to come over. I asked about the pricing on the “secret menu” and was told those burgers were a couple dollars more than the base burger price. No, I was charged $5 more.
The burgers were delicious but sooo expensive. Water to drink, a “Settle for Less Ugly” and a “Twice as Ugly” from the secret menu and it was almost $50 after tax and tip. Really expensive IMO for a couple of cheeseburgers.

First and foremost our server was Emma was a bad ass! She was prompt, polite and kind. Since it was our first time in she walked us through the menu and helped with recommendations.
My husband and I went with their smaller burger option – he got an original bub burger and I added bacon and an egg. I will say, I found it interesting that the bacon was chopped on topped under the cheese vs bacon strips. The burger was good, nothing too fancy in taste, seemed under seasoned, but it was good. The star of the show in both of our opinions were the cole slaw and the loaded potato salad. Those sides were straight full of flavor! The slaw is a crunchy, chopped slaw that is dairy free, not too heavy on vinegar! The potato salad, I don’t know what made it so damn good but it was fresh, creamy, the potatoes were perfect! While I appreciate that they offer gluten free buns, it was a bummer that the fries aren’t gluten free.
We did get our food pretty quickly which is nice seeing as it was right at lunch time, and I appreciated that they had uno cards at each table to keep you entertained vs just sitting on your phone.

They have really good burgers with homemade buns. They each come with a side also. Then, if you’re really hungry, they have some massive burgers. The cream was really good too!

The chefs here nailed it! I get mine with American cheese, Blue cheese, bacon and onion. I call it the “Breathenator.” They built it perfectly and did not go shy on the toppings. I did not finish this monster (The Big Ugly) today, but I’ll be back to try again!
Four stars because it was kinda pricey for a burger-centered restaurant. Other than that, it was perfect. Wish I could give 4.5!

We went for ice cream. Not only was ice cream amazing, but we had quite possibly the most friendly server I’ve encountered in Bloomington. My 10 year old says they have “the best milkshake ever.”

Our family, 2 adults and 2 kids, enjoyed our first meal here. Great beef and elk burgers and sides and ice cream. Free soup/chili samples was a nice surprise. Decor is awesome with the thousands of photos on the walls of people who won the 1 pound burger challenge.

As a newcomer to the incredible offerings here in Bloomington, it was only a matter of time before a Monday afternoon found me at Bub’s! Ever willing to take on a challenge, a huge slab of ground beef was enticing me from under glass just inside the front door. With Ruth as my cheerleader and Liam as culinary competitive eating coach, l took on the challenge! One humongous burger plus cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles and tomatoes to be eaten in an hour or less. After 7 minutes the meat was gone. By 24 minutes the platter empty. Success! A photo now joins hundreds on the wall as another epic performance lives on! Treat yourself to a “recreational eating experience” and learn why this iconic restaurant is beloved!
