Edited to add: corporate reached out to me, apologized and refunded my money, so I’m updating my review.
Used the app to order a salad & a soup. Arrived at the restaurant a couple of minutes before the time the app told me to pick it up. The male employee stated they were working on my food. Cool, as they should be – they weren’t busy and had plenty of employees working. 15 minutes later, I finally asked them to just refund my money to which the employee stated my food was almost ready. I asked to speak to the manager who did not apologize – just stated they were out of the chicken we wanted so they had to make more. 20 minutes AFTER I arrived they gave me my food. No apology. No offer of a complimentary drink or anything. Will never order from them again.

1/5 stars and here’s why:

I genuinely try to be unbiased in my reviews, and I’ve given Cafe Rio many chances over the years, but my experience yesterday really confirmed why I usually choose their competitor, CV. Unfortunately, Cafe Rio Mesquite just didn’t deliver.

Food:
The food was mediocre at best. I know Cafe Rio can do better, which is the only reason I’d even give it a 2/5.

Service:
This is where the visit fell apart. The service was honestly ridiculous. I would strongly suggest the staff avoid mumbling vulgar and degrading comments about customers, especially assuming no one speaks Spanish. Yet I do. Not only were comments made about me, but also about others in line. If my family wasn’t starving, we would have walked out mid-order.

I have a gluten allergy and politely asked the staff to change their gloves which is something most restaurants do without hesitation and yet I was met with resistance and inappropriate remarks. Completely unacceptable.

Cleanliness & Environment:
While we were there, a customer accidentally spilled a drink all over themselves and the floor. Instead of helping or cleaning it up, the staff simply set out a wet floor sign and moved on. The bathrooms also needed attention, dirty and clearly overdue for servicing.

Ratings:
• Staff: 1/5
• Environment: 1/5
• Food: 2/5

I don’t write negative reviews just to complain however, this one is absolutely deserved. I hope management takes these issues seriously, because Cafe Rio is capable of being much better than what we experienced.

I usually love Cafe Rio and look forward to it every time I drive in from Moapa. I was just there and sadly the 2 girls making my food couldn’t be bothered to get my order right. They were so busy talking to each other about how they like working together, then went on and on about how she spent $400 on new clothes this weekend and were still talking about what she bought as I was leaving. It’s too bad to because I’m not sure how the tipping works, but for the first time I didn’t tip anyone there.

Line was moderate, maybe ~10 people ahead of us, but we legitimately stood in line for over 30 min not even moving most of the time. Staff seemed grumpy. We were as patient and kind as we could be, made friends with people in line while we quietly griped to each other about the absurdity of the wait. I think they must have been doing pickup orders or something?? whatever the reason tho, it seemed really inconsiderate to those of us waiting in line, and no explanation or apology. It took another 10-15 min from the time we got to the front of the line before we were through to the register and able to get seated. This was a tough pill to swallow with 4 hungry kids after a long day of soccer. Gotta say… Costa Vida does it better…

Gets a bad rep, better than Chipotle! Extremely cheap and extremely delicious!

Food was unbelievably fast, had it ready within 60s of ordering, tasted great!

Also, Faustina got me a free drink for filling out a survey, much appreciated!

I have eaten at the Mesquite NV location 5 times in the last 30 days. Each time food was good until today. The bowl wasn’t even 1/2 full. I actually won’t go in to pick up my order because the staff has been so crabby so I beg my husband to. After todays order I think I will find somewhere else to go

First off. Let’s just say I think cafe rio need to hire better district managers! Because they have just gone down hill.
Which hey, if you have to cut corners lower the price. Absolute garbage!! No more! I got a salad shredded beef. ( I had a chunk of fat/ gristle the size of a kids fist like, how did you miss that)
LAZY is how I asked for fresh jalapeños I got pickled. And you’d of thought I asked for jalapeños as my protein there were at least 30. And there was a puddle of water in the bottom.
Now I’m sitting here worried I’m going to be sick…

You have to train your staff. I asked for sauce on my burrito (like inside of the burrito) and they refused to do it. I have been doing that for many years and I’m jus very disappointed.
I won’t chose this location anymore.

Disappointing experience and meal. This establishment felt very mismanaged. We stood in line for over 40 minutes .. there may have been 15 people in front of us. The kitchen area looked dirty & chaotic and unfortunately the food was sub par. I’ve frequented many Cafe Rio’s over the years and this experience leaves me not wanting to return.

everytime i go to cafe rio there’s a new rule. this time the lady said my vegetarian quesadilla could either come with rice and beans, or pico and guac, but not both. nowhere on the menu does it say there are restrictions on what topping you can get. all i wanted was beans, pico, and guac but instead she gave me rice and beans. the rice was not fully cooked and therefore inedible. the tortillas are really good but it is not worth $12 if you can’t get the “free” toppings they list on the menu.
