Crabs cakes are always so good. The dessert menu is a literal tray of desserts to see and choose from! Abby was my favorite waitress!

The atmosphere is Queint and relaxing. The hostess was very friendly and Liza our waitress had a warm demeanor and was personable very attentive.
Delicious doesn’t even begin to describe the food. We had the bruschetta, French onion soup, side salad, French dip and stuffed hot pepper pasta.
All portions we exactly right (not to big not to small). Each dish tastes home cook and they space our the dishes so you don’t feel rushed. I couldn’t tell you the last time I enjoyed eating at a restaurant. We will definitely be back again.

We’ve been here a few times now and absolutely positively love this place! The food is always perfect. The service is absolutely top notch. This is the PERFECT family restaurant. When your waiter is taking your order while telling you his favorite foods and how much he loves THEM, THAT SAYS A LOT!!!! A lot of waiters and waitresses are very nice when they’re taking your order, but you can tell the ones that truly enjoy working where they’re at. That says a lot about a restaurant. And every time we’ve been there to eat the food was absolutely exceptional and we see whole families there all the time. Of course you want to bring your family to a place that has exceptional food and service and this is the place!!!!

It’s always crowded
I just moved back to BP
This is my 1st time at Al’s cafe
That’s a knife and fork burger
3rd time that has happened
And the bun was not toasted that needs fixed for all the burgers
And if i can make a suggestion
Add venison to the menu
It’s a log cabin style restaurant when you walk in
Pennsylvania has a deer problem so during hunting season add venison to the menu
The menu is off the charts there’s a lot to choose from
We have a lot of hunters in south western Pa so a game menu would be good
A rabbit rattlesnake appetizer would be great
Keep the REESE’S desert on the menu

The club sandwich is great
Get the flatbread

First time at the cafe. I truly had such a wonderful experience and I don’t think it would have been nearly as amazing if we didn’t have Nick as our server. We had a large party of, I believe 12-14 (with kids). He gave us all multiple refills of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as requested. He handed out the food without auctioning, and made sure my aunts birthday was beyond spectacular. I mean Nick really hustled and still provided exceptional service. Everything about the restaurants was great, but Nick is the reason we would return. Pleas request him next time you dine. He’s truly one of a kind.

My son and I went to Al’s Cafe on Monday., February 16 around 6pm. The booth we were seated at was cramped and the table was falling off the wall with no support on the outside. My son ordered the Pittsburgh Cheesesteak with fries and a cup of French Onion Soup. I ordered the cheese ravioli with Marinara sauce and a salad. A larger woman with big, black hair pulled back in a clip, not our server, brought out the soup and salad. She came up to our table and said, in a very snarky way, “I don’t know whose is who’s” and I said that the salad was mine. She set my salad plate down hard enough for the croutons to bounce. I gave her a dirty look and just said thank you. After she set my son’s soup down she quickly walked over to a booth to my left, we were seated in the booth right next to the bar entrance, and she stood there for at least 15 minutes talking to the couple in that booth. As I was eating my salad, I noticed other salads going out to other patrons and they were given bread on these wooden cutting boards with a handle. I mentioned that to my son and he suggested that I don’t say anything because he doesn’t want anyone messing with our food (which I don’t think that would have happened there). Then I thought maybe it’ll come out with my ravioli. Nope, no bread and no Parmesan cheese either. I figured maybe we had to ask for it, and pay extra for it now, even though every time we’ve been there in the past we were given bread with our salads and Parmesan cheese with Italian dishes. My son’s sandwich looked great, he said it was really good. Mine, not so much. The sauce was thin, plain, bland tomato sauce, definitely not marinara sauce. Marinara sauce has chunks of tomato in it, this sauce did not. I was given 6 very thin, small raviolis with very little cheese in them. Very disappointing and certainly not worth $17.99! Our server came over and asked how everything was and I mentioned the Parmesan cheese, but by that time I had already eaten 4 of my 6 ravioli. As we were finishing up, our server approached our table with the bill and asked if we needed anything else. My son mentioned dessert, she said they had a tray of desserts, not a menu. She came back about 5 minutes later with the dessert tray. We both ordered a dessert and unfortunately, and completely my own fault, I didn’t inquire about the prices of these desserts. My son’s raspberry chocolate cheesecake was $9.29 and my devil chocolate cheesecake was $12.29. Yikes!!! The desserts were excellent but not worth those prices.
We’ve been to Al’s Cafe multiple times over the past 18 years and never had a problem and was always very happy with the food and the service. We’ve brought friends and family there because we loved it there so much. After this last visit, we probably won’t be back. Between the rudeness of that one woman with the black hair, the horribly uncomfortable booth, the lack of quality of the food I had, and them no longer giving bread with salads and/or their Italian dishes all combined is enough for me to not return. I told a friend of mine about our experience and she said she had a very similar experience on Tuesday., January 27. She said there were 7 of them in her party and 5 of the 7 were unhappy with their food and they didn’t get bread with their salads either. Her husband had to ask for 2 loaves to go with their salads and when asked to replenish the bread the server looked annoyed and brought out one loaf for the table of 7 to share. She said that her husband said they won’t be back because of the rude server and because the food quality has greatly decreased. He said not worth the prices.
The service and the quality of food has definitely gone down hill and the prices are too high for the quality of food you’re serving.

This is a great restaurant and a local institution. They have a really big menu and it often is overwhelming. My daughter and I went for lunch and I’m glad we came.

She got the usual chicken fingers and French Fries. She said their chicken fingers are excellent but fries were maybe a 5/10.

I got the Mediterranean salad which was excellent. I was really surprised with how good it was. Their portions are generous.

Great food and awesome service. The only issue is that it is SOOOO bright in the bar area and/or sitting at the bar that you feel like you’re dining on the surface of the SUN! The lights are always turned ALL the way up at all times of the day/night that you need to wear and hat and sunglasses to fully enjoy the place.

Good food and good service. Large selection on the menu including decent healthy alternatives to the fried food everyone seems to love so much.

Very good food. My server was extremely friendly and the food was 10/10. We had a bourbon burger, an Als burger, and crab stuffed mushrooms and all of it was phenomenal. The atmosphere was very cool sports bar like vibe but at the same time it was a classy nice restaurant. It’s hard to describe but definitely worth a visit.

Updated visit: the host that we spoke to on the phone was EXTREMELY rude when asked what time closing was. She told us 9pm and immediately hung up the phone. Other than that strange experience everything else was still just as great as last time. We had a Philly cheese steak and a pulled pork sandwich both of them were delicious. Very clean but small men’s bathroom. It smelled fresh like cleaner.
