Breakfast at the Hoot Owl Cafe ☕

We went around 10:30 AM and got seated right away, but the place stayed steadily busy the whole time we were there, which is always a good sign! The Hoot Owl is full of old-school charm with vintage decor and a massive menu. I was seriously overwhelmed (in the best way) by all the delicious options.

I ended up with the biscuit and gravy with eggs ($12), and my husband went big with the steak and eggs ($19). The portions? HUGE. Like, you will need a to-go box huge. We couldn’t even finish it all!

Prices were super reasonable, service was top-notch, and my husband’s coffee cup was magically never empty. Just a heads up, don’t come in a rush. The food takes a bit, but it’s totally worth the wait. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your people.

Highly recommend the Hoot Owl Cafe! You will not be disappointed!

It was like going to grandma’s for Sunday breakfast. There was a relaxed atmosphere with friendly service. The portions were large and delicious.

I ordered the Chicken in a biscuit with a side of hash-browns for my first time eating here and I will definitely be going back!

We had a delicious, large breakfast at this fun, unique, old styled cafe. The country fried steak was enormous and delicious. My wife enjoyed the number of greener breakfast options (ie spinach, avocado, etc)
We’ll stop by whenever we’re in the area

how do i even begin to explain how good this place is… holy land. we randomly found it passing through and i wish i could bring it home with me in my car. the best breakfast i’ve had in ages. you definitely can’t pass up the cinnamon roll either, it literally oozes creamy cinnamon goo. “this might be the best experience of my life” -my roommate

Charming Local hole in the wall with Big Hearty Portions! and Friendly Service

The Hoot Owl Café is exactly the kind of place I hope to find on a road trip 🙂 — a cozy, rustic mom-and-pop diner that feels like stepping back in time (in the best way). It’s a standalone wooden building with lots of fresh flowers out front and cute, quirky signs inside that give it a 50s farmhouse vibe. Even the mismatched stools at the counter add to the charm.

The atmosphere is warm, comfortable, and welcoming. Everyone working there was incredibly friendly, and you can tell this place has a loyal local following. There are indoor restrooms, and the whole café is clean and inviting.

Now for the food — huge portions, homemade goodness, and great prices. My cousin ordered the smaller portion of the chicken fried steak, and it still took up three-quarters of a long plate. The hashbrowns were piled an inch high, crispy and perfect. I had a full breakfast plus one of their giant homemade cinnamon rolls to go — seriously, it nearly filled an entire takeout box and was light, fluffy, and delicious.

They make their own biscuits, the orange juice was real O.J. and reasonably priced, and when I went up to pay with cash, the cashier surprised me by taking the drinks off the bill — a rare and much-appreciated gesture!

All in all, a fantastic local breakfast spot with great food, generous portions, and genuine hospitality. My full meal plus the cinnamon roll came to just $22 — a steal for what you get. If you’re in the Sandpoint area, don’t miss the Hoot Owl Cafe! While they are mostly for breakfast, they did have a burger and other lunch items and I believe they close at 2 o’clock or something FYI

Was told on Facebook to go here if we want good food. It was awesome. Staff was amazing eh! I got a half order of the good stuff, took half home for the next breakfast. I can see why there was a lineup when we were leaving. If you are passing through Sandpoint this place is a must stop. Eh

Great staff who made us feel like we were regulars the minute we walked in the door. Delicious food and extremely generous portions. You won’t leave this place thinking you could have eaten more. The decor was very nicely homespun. Loved it!

Excellent breakfast. I ordered sausage links eggs and hashbrowns and my husband ordered the Hot Tottys and both meals were incredible. We will definitely be back!

Good local experience. I really liked the food here, you’re going to get a big serving of anything you order. I had the Kingsley Irish BLT and it was really good. The corn beef was fried up nice and the bread has Parmesan melted into it. One thing to note if your looking for gluten free options, they have them on their menu, they also state they do not keep anything clean from cross contamination. So essentially they are not safe for gluten allergy. Be aware of that.
