I had heard mixed reviews of Don Chuy’s but finally decided to try it for lunch. I have my own mixed reviews so now get it.
The chips and bean dip were great. The salsa was ok, nothing special but also not bad.
I ordered a margarita to drinks. Wasn’t a bad margarita but did have an interesting after taste.
For my entree I had the Chimichanga with Fajita Steak. The tortilla was fried well and topped with queso. However the steak was so dried out and burnt, it was bad. I did eat it, mainly because I only saw my server when she took my order, brought my margarita and brought my check. She didn’t stop by during my meal which is my other complaint. The service was non existent. She was carrying on a long conversation with the table behind me but didn’t come by until my meal was done.
I would say I also get aggravated with establishments that charge as much if not more than other restaurants and they have the audacity to add a credit card fee. It was on my check before I was even asked how I was paying. I know restaurants have to pay a fee but that is a cost of doing business and should be worked into the pricing. It’s not like the prices were cheaper than eating anywhere else.
I may consider going back but I’d prefer to drive a bit further and go to Poblano’s instead.

The food is always good- when it’s correct and not cold. We came by last Saturday night, slightly surprised as to why they weren’t busier. We got sat promptly, and ordered our drinks. She brought them about 5 minutes later, and I asked for some more bean dip. We were brought cheese dip (which is 6 dollars), and when we tried to talk to her to point out that this wasn’t what we asked for she interrupted us and said “just a moment” and turned around to the table of 6 behind her and started taking their order. My boyfriend got agitated and asked for another server, who was great and very apologetic. She let us keep the cheese dip and offered not to charge it. We ordered our food and it took another 30-45 minutes to be brought out (please note other than us the only other people in the restaurant was the table of 6 next to us, and couple tables of 2-3). When we finally got our food, it was all cold. We grabbed our server and apologized, but said we were just going to leave. We even offered her a tip because she was very polite and offered to help us after our original experience. We went to another restaurant and had much better service. This place has gone way down hill since becoming Don Chuy’s. Our orders are always messed up, take forever to come out to us, or are cold. Not to mention we’re still paying a minimum of 14 dollars a plate. They’re clearly understaffed and not run well anymore. Used to come here all the time as we lived close by. After Saturday, plan to go to El Charolais more often instead. No longer concerned as to why the restaurant was nearly empty on a football season Saturday night. I don’t normally leave reviews, especially negative ones. But after my repeated experiences here, I wanted to make it known the kind of service to expect. When it was 7 Hermanos, it was one of the most popular Mexican places in town, always busy and reviewed greatly. Those 4 stars are very much holding on to 2+ year old reviews, because most recent reviews are very poor.

We love the spicy bean dip with the chips when you first sit down. It’s a nice change from just salsa. The decor is also very unique and sets the mood nicely. The food was top notch and the selection was varied enough for anyone’s taste. We had the #3 quesadilla combo platter chicken&beef which was delicious! The service was also very friendly without being intrusive. We highly recommend and will be back again.

This place has quickly become mine and my husbands favorite place. The cheese and bean dip are awesome and the margaritas are so good and decently cheap! I always get the classic ACP with flour tortillas and am never disappointed. Portions are large and the staff is very kind. Always amazed to see this place not have many customers, they deserve more!

Atmosphere is just like any routine Mexican restaurant. Service was fine. Seems like they change thee recipes. Cheese sauce, chips had a funky taste. Did not like them. Husband liked his meal. Fajitas. I ordered the AC shrimp. Shrimp very over cooked, second time, of course, it had the funky white cheese on the meal. Did not taste good.

There are better options in the area with more attentive staff and better prepared food. However, if you like a lot of onions and bland salsa that tastes more like spaghetti sauce, this is the place for you. Another “positive”, you won’t have to wait for a seat as the place only had 3 tables occupied.

The food was Good. Prices where a little high for proportions on one plate but the rest seemed fair. The staff seemed friendly however the adults where brought there food first with hungry kids waiting then they brought my 4 year old a plate (kids menue mind you) that was so hot it felt fresh out of the oven (the actual plate) i had to have her chicken tenders remade bc they where burnt bad and our drinks where empty a few times but perhaps that’s Because we where seated in a corner where they can’t see as well

Took the family and enjoyed a great Mexican meal. Food was great, as was the service. One of the better Mexican restaurants in Johnson city if you ask me.
