For the entrée, I went with the beef tenderloin medallions, served rare as requested, and the cook nailed it, tTender and juicy. The mashed potatoes were smooth and comforting, but the accompanying balsamic cream sauce missed the mark. It lacked the tangy depth you’d expect from balsamic and didn’t quite complement the beef.
Service was attentive and the ambiance inviting, making it a pleasant dining experience overall.
We came in when there were only a few tables occupied, but for some reason, they seated us near the bar area, so we ended up being served by the bartender’s waitress.
The bar was completely full, so she didn’t really have time to serve both the bar guests and us.
Strange.
At the same time the main dining area, three waiters were just walking around, serving only three tables.
I really hope they keep up this level of quality and service without any strange surprises. It’s such a comforting place, and I want to keep coming back again and again!
The food was fairly tasty, but cost more than we would have normally spent in an Italian restaurant.
I had a chicken linguini dish with pine nuts, capers, and feta cheese that had very good flavor. For the price, it was less food than I would’ve expected, but it was still enough to have a tiny leftover the next day. The chicken pieces were a bit overcooked and chewy, but the mix of ingredients were good.
I had hoped to try eating a tomato sauce-based dish, but found out that all of the red sauce here contains basil, which I am allergic to.
My husband ordered an eggplant appetizer, which was actually fairly disappointing since it was small and consisted mostly of a plate of arugula lettuce. We had asked to take the basil off, but it had green sauce on it, so I didn’t try it.
The bread that came before the meal was OK, but it was just a few slices on a plate with some olive oil and basil in a little cup next to it, so it wasn’t very exciting or flavorful.
My husband ordered spaghetti Bolognese with sausage in it, but he was disappointed in the sauce and sausage which had absolutely no flavor. It tasted like it might have been homemade, but we’ve never had a sausage that was so bland with a strange fall-apart texture. The sauce was not much different than what we could have made at home which was disappointing.
For dessert, I tried a $10 piece of chocolate mousse cake which tasted good, but was pretty small for the price.
All in all, this place had a fancy atmosphere and price tag, but we didn’t feel that the food was really worth it. Maybe it’s because we’re not used to going to fancy places, but we had higher expectations when we got taken out to dinner here. We were thankful to have had the opportunity to try a place we normally would not have gone to, but we most likely won’t be back on our own.
To start, the bread service left much to be desired. It was clearly packaged rather than house made and wasn’t even warmed, which was surprising. That said, the pesto and garlic dip served alongside it was a nice touch and added some flavor.
My husband’s salad was equally underwhelming. It lacked dressing, the flavors were flat, and the lettuce was noticeably brown in spots. Our server described the “Grazie Salad” with rotini pasta as “phenomenal,” but it fell far short of that expectation… it felt more like something you’d pick up from a grocery store deli than a restaurant.
I also asked if it would be possible to substitute the fettuccine for vegetables due to dietary restrictions. Unfortunately, this turned into a frustrating experience. Our server seemed confused by the request, and after several attempts to explain, it became clear it wasn’t going to be accommodated, so I ended up ordering something else. It was disappointing that such a simple request couldn’t be handled.
We also ordered the crab and artichoke dip as an appetizer. While the portion size was generous, the dish lacked both flavor and creativity. It was essentially chopped artichoke with a few scattered pieces of crab over spinach, without the creamy, cohesive texture you’d expect from a proper dip.
For our entrees, the disappointment continued. My husband ordered the fettuccine, but it was so underwhelming he could only manage a couple of bites. The chicken was extremely thin, rubbery, and lacked any real flavor, and the dish overall felt uninspired.
We truly wanted to enjoy this experience especially since we were visiting from out of town and celebrating Valentine’s Day but it simply did not meet expectations. Unfortunately, this isn’t a place we plan to return to.
