This place completely surprised me. It’s a very traditional Japanese spot and apparently pretty well known in Denver. They actually have another restaurant right next door with a different name, same owner, same exact menu — feels like one is just a newer version of the other.

Honestly, it’s one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. The food is extremely well done and very generous. The fish tastes super fresh, everything is flavorful and clearly prepared with care. You can see the sushi chefs working in real time, which is always a good sign. Service is great too.

Prices aren’t cheap, but they’re far from crazy — totally fair for the quality. The dishes are beautiful, well plated, and the flavors have little twists that make them stand out. I actually prefer it over Sushi Den, mainly because the atmosphere feels nicer and more comfortable. Could be the day I went or the table I got, but overall it was an excellent experience. Definitely going back.

We had high expectations of the food at this famous restaurant. The ambience and the service was real top notch. However the food was underwhelming. The vegetarian sushi was average. Though they had a few options, all of them looked and tasted very similar. Also the sushi was rice heavy. The presentation of the sushi was also average. The eggplant miso was good. The eggplan sushi was good. Also they were out of their Tofu steak. So vegetarian entree options were non existent. Also for the price the food was average.

We came here for a birthday dinner (we’ve been before but it’s been a while), and the food is fantastic. I’ve had sushi on the east and west coast, and this is probably some of the freshest sushi I’ve had in Colorado. Even their chocolate cake desert is amazing. I highly recommend.

This place is an absolute beautiful experience if you’re a foodie! Atmosphere is great, service is on fire, and the food is something you’ll be talking about for a long time! The tuna in toro, is probably one of the best single bites of culinary excellence you are likely to experience. I’ve been here twice now, ordered a dozen different items and a couple repeats, and it will definitely be on my shirt list for visits when I come to town

Absolutely amazing and super fresh.
Celebrated my birthday here with my friends and we were all delighted with the taste, freshness, and excellent service.
The manager came to our table to wish me happy birthday, he’s a nice person

Delicious. I judge places very hard on their seaweed and rice and this place was excellent. The fish is extremely fresh and they really know what they’re doing.

Izakaya is usually my family’s go-to spot for sushi. We went on Christmas Eve and sadly didn’t have the best experience. Our food took a very long time to come out and we watched large parties who arrived after us get their food long before we did. The food was delicious when it arrived. The next day when we had leftovers my wife spit out a piece of plastic she found in her short ribs. Usually this place is 5/5 this time it was 3/5 so I’m averaging it at 4 stars. We’re not sure if we’re gonna go back after my wife almost swallowed plastic :/

Great sushi, awesome sake selection. Definitely gets pretty crowded, but really enjoyed our meal as always.

This is not a typical sushi restaurant, and that distinction becomes clear the moment you sit down.
What sets this place apart is the experience itself. The server didn’t just take an order; he guided us through the philosophy behind the food, explaining that much of the fish is sourced directly from Japan and flown in every 24–48 hours.

That level of sourcing matters, and you can taste it immediately. The quality, texture, and balance of each piece reflect an attention to detail that goes far beyond standard sushi offerings.

This is an intricate, intentional sushi experience, one that challenges your palate rather than catering to it. Allowing the staff to guide you is part of the journey, and I highly recommend it.

Their knowledge and confidence elevate the meal into something educational as well as indulgent.
The sushi tartare is an absolute must, clean, delicate, and perfectly composed. Any of their toro selections are equally outstanding, showcasing richness without heaviness and a freshness that speaks for itself. Every bite feels deliberate, respectful of the ingredient, and expertly executed.

Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but for the quality, sourcing, and craftsmanship involved, it’s worth every penny. This is sushi for people who truly appreciate the art behind it, not just the roll on the plate.

An exceptional dining experience and a testament to why this establishment has remained a staple in Denver for decades.

We sat at the sushi bar and had a really lovely dinner. As people said, the fish is very fresh. The chef who we spoke with made really delicious recommendations. My favorite was the new style salmon. The whole staff was polite, prompt, and didn’t rush us. They offered some ice cream for our anniversary celebration. We had a lovely dinner. Thank you for hosting us, Izakaya!
