My friends, however, weren’t as impressed! They ordered the shack fries and found the steak on the chips overcooked which made it tough, which was strange since we asked for it cooked the same way. One of my friends also didn’t like the chicken on her fries so much. I’d recommend sticking with the com (rice dishes)
We visited before a concert this month and everything we had was sensational.
Do not sleep on the Vegan Mac Mac Chien – it is too good to pass up and I want to eat it every day now.
The Vegan Taco was also lovely, as were the Pho and Ca Tim. We will definitely be back. The service was great, the wait time wasn’t longer than anywhere else, and it was all very relaxed and easy.
Lovely staff who easily accommodated my partners gluten allergy with an easy to read allergen matrix of the menu.
I had the EX martini, delightfully citrussy from lime but with punchy flavours from white rum, chilli and ginger. And somehow a smooth almost creamy texture.
We shared some very salty indulgent oyster mushrooms that are one of many things I think has an overly generous portion size. These again had a building heat from chilli and side guac to balance.
Soft shell crab taco was a surprise with a full crab balanced across hard shell taco with a zesty slaw and pickled onion as well as a sauce I didnt take time to sample alone due to my hunger and enthusiasm for the dish.
My only desirable change would be a soft shell version to make handheld eating more convenient, though the delicious light crunchy crab created no obstacle to breaking the dish down into tasty bites.
Followed up with a mountain of a dish in the shack rice.
Medium rare steak, chicken breast over a lightly sticky rice with a mix of sauces.
Steak was perfectly cooked though the cut was a tad chewy, however its already mostly portioned in bite size pieces. Chicken was flavourful without being drenched in sauce.
My partner had a ginger beer and one of multiple options of pho.
All with the ambiance of a lovely clean open space and the background sounds of conversation and an eclectic mix of music at comfortable levels.
Would have loved to sample their desserts but late on a sunday we didn’t want to keep the staff later after being served so swiftly and politely.
Not only that, with these portion sizes you could eat here much more affordably while we indulged with our choices and yet couldn’t even finish our meals due to the sizes.
