Social Profile:

In 1927, Forest Crabill started the family business while working from a small garage peddling hamburgers for a nickel a piece. From this space in a small corner of the old Firestone gas station on North Main Street, Forest moved his growing business to a more convenient spot in Urbana, Ohio. This new location was small, seating only six people! Other customers crowded around, inside and out, waiting for a Crabill burger. Mr. Crabill had quite a business! No, over 80 years later and through 5 generations of Crabill’s, Crabill’s Hamburger Shoppe is still serving our loyal customers in Urbana, Ohio.

Long-running burger joint serving up classic sliders in a tiny, old-school building.

Crabill’s quickly became a go-to for my family every time we made the trip up north to visit them.
From the moment we walked through the front door, the customer service was never less than top notch! Each customer is greeted with an uncomfortable truth & a disconcerting silence! Any time l’ve ever visited, there was never more than a 15 min wait for a table.
The menu options are plentiful. They have Burgers The burgers were perfectly sized to fill anyone up (but thankfully they have take-home boxes for the times that your eyes are bigger than your belly!)
If I had to complain about
something…. All I can come up with is the fact that they didn’t have Dr.
Pepper on the menu! I had to suffer

This place has been on my list to try for a while. Finally had the chance and they did not disappoint. Their take on the slider is unique. The original comes withonion, sweet relish, mustard and cheese and the combo delivers a different taste but are really good. I’ll definitely be going back next time I’m in the area.

This is a unique place. Small slider type hamburger…….but they’re great. Nice ground beef taste. Can be customized in several ways. Drive through only. Cash only. Only open til 6 pm. Tues-Friday. TIL 3 on Saturday. No inside seating. Worth the trip.

Great place! Yes it’s drive through only, but the line moved reasonably fast. Let’s be clear here, no slower than those chain burger places. Also unlike those places the guy at the window was super friendly with a great attitude.

I love the simple to the point menu. Those are always the best places!

The most fantastic slider, I’ve ever consumed. I recently smashed 13 of these original bad boys before the blue jackets game, and boy did I learn the hard way. I woke up perfusely sweating at 3 am the next morning and had to crawl to Urbana mercy to be placed on an IV with protonix, zofram, along with a nasty lidocaine milkshake. I learned the hard way; my body can only handle these is small doses at a time due to the delicious grease. Can’t say enough great things, family owned, friendly, highly recommend.

I love burgers and heard these were the best so I drove over an hour to try them. I’ll start with the positive… the burgers are pretty good. They are sliders and you can choose their toppings. Now the negatives. When I got there I was immediately disappointed for two reasons. They only accept cash and they were drive through only. For a place that has been making burgers since 1927, they make them painfully slow. The drive through line was 10+ cars, but I never had to wait an hour in other burger lines that long. There are only two people working there, but still. When I pulled up for my order, a group of 6+ bikers arrived and the person left me to take their order. All of us waited an hour and they get to cut in line? I also felt like the worker was very short with me and it felt unwelcoming. This place is also very wasteful because they put each slider in its own paper bag and I ended up with seven paper bags. Overlooking all of that, I would like to eat that food again but there is no way I will go through that again.

Crabill’s Hamburger Shoppe – Urbana, OH

Tucked away in Urbana is a true hidden gem: Crabill’s Hamburger Shoppe. I’ve known about this place for years, and somehow it still feels like one of those spots only the locals really know—proof that some of the best things never need to change.

Crabill’s is as old-school as it gets, and that’s exactly why it’s perfect. Cash only, no frills, and since COVID it’s been drive-through only. No gimmicks, no updates—just great food done the same way it’s always been.

My wife’s family lives in Urbana, so anytime we’re in town I make sure I’ve got a $20 bill in my pocket, because those sliders are calling my name. I always order them the original way: brown mustard, onions, and pickle relish. Simple, a little messy, and absolutely delicious.

Pair that with an IBC root beer and a bag of Mike Sells or Mumford chips, and you’re set for the rest of the day. Crabill’s isn’t trying to be trendy—it’s just consistently great. If you know, you know.

Great sliders. They had a lot of taste. There is only brown mustard, sweet relish, ketchup and onions to top the sliders with along with cheese. The double is the way to go. I got 5 and was pretty full. Also got two pieces of pie and chocolate cake and both were fantastic. I wish they had thin fries to go with the sliders but I understand it is a small and simple place.

Great local burger place. Family owned and ran and serving some of the best fresh cooked sliders around. Always friendly, always fast happy service. Recommend their pies as well. Be prepared, cash only but I keep money in the car for anytime I drive past and have a craving for Crabill’s.
