In 1927, Forest Crabill started the family business while working from a small garage peddling hamburgers for a nickel a piece. From this space in a small corner of the old Firestone gas station on North Main Street, Forest moved his growing business to a more convenient spot in Urbana, Ohio. This new location was small, seating only six people! Other customers crowded around, inside and out, waiting for a Crabill burger. Mr. Crabill had quite a business! No, over 80 years later and through 5 generations of Crabill’s, Crabill’s Hamburger Shoppe is still serving our loyal customers in Urbana, Ohio.
Long-running burger joint serving up classic sliders in a tiny, old-school building.

From the moment we walked through the front door, the customer service was never less than top notch! Each customer is greeted with an uncomfortable truth & a disconcerting silence! Any time l’ve ever visited, there was never more than a 15 min wait for a table.
The menu options are plentiful. They have Burgers The burgers were perfectly sized to fill anyone up (but thankfully they have take-home boxes for the times that your eyes are bigger than your belly!)
If I had to complain about
something…. All I can come up with is the fact that they didn’t have Dr.
Pepper on the menu! I had to suffer
I love the simple to the point menu. Those are always the best places!
Tucked away in Urbana is a true hidden gem: Crabill’s Hamburger Shoppe. I’ve known about this place for years, and somehow it still feels like one of those spots only the locals really know—proof that some of the best things never need to change.
Crabill’s is as old-school as it gets, and that’s exactly why it’s perfect. Cash only, no frills, and since COVID it’s been drive-through only. No gimmicks, no updates—just great food done the same way it’s always been.
My wife’s family lives in Urbana, so anytime we’re in town I make sure I’ve got a $20 bill in my pocket, because those sliders are calling my name. I always order them the original way: brown mustard, onions, and pickle relish. Simple, a little messy, and absolutely delicious.
Pair that with an IBC root beer and a bag of Mike Sells or Mumford chips, and you’re set for the rest of the day. Crabill’s isn’t trying to be trendy—it’s just consistently great. If you know, you know.
