We stopped at Open Range for lunch break on our way to Chimney Rock. And that was the best decision. The price is good and the food is amazing

We’re passing through. I guess no one eats lunch at 2:00pm in Ogalalla? We stopped at three restaurants and no one was in the parking lot. We ended up stopping at this place. Again, no cars in the parking lot.

This restaurant has signs that say they are a family-owned fast food restaurant. You go in and order at the counter/bar, pay, and find yourself a table. They bring your food out. When you’re done, you clean up after yourselves and place your dishes at the designated area. I won’t get into the tip debate for a place like this, but we did tip.

I got the Buckin’ Burrito and the husband got the Patty Melt. They have a nice variety of food. The young ladies were courteous. Food smelled and looked great. Husband had no complaints about the Patty Melt, however, my burrito wasn’t that great.

Real quick – the burrito was a lot smaller than I imagined considering all the ingredients it contains. It made for a delicious tasting burrito, but the steak meat was tough and chewy and many pieces were the fatty parts. Definitely not the greatest part of the cow is used. It would probably help if they thinly sliced the beef instead of cutting them into cubes. Also, I’ve never had a burrito with fries. Some tortilla chips with a small side of salsa would be a better pairing. Just my recommendation. Otherwise, it would have been a great burrito.

I would give this restaurant a second try if we were in town again, but maybe order something different.

A great place to stop for lunch on our way north to South Dakota. Rustic atmosphere and friendly service. Appears to be a fairly new establishment. You order at the counter and food is brought to you. My chicken wrap was good, not great – could have used more “stuff” inside – jalapenos, pickles, etc. But it was tasty. My wife loved her large salad. They also have games for the kids. Good stop.

So just want to say that we really love coming here. We have been since they opened years ago. The reason it’s a 4 star is that I have noticed that they are in the grasp of increasing prices, but decreasing food quality.

They used to brag (rightfully so) that they had beef from a farm in Keith County. I think that has changed as they don’t mention it at all anymore, and the patties now seem preformed and uniform. But the saddest thing has been the fries. They used to be peel on, fresh and amazing. Now they are obviously just frozen, fried and nowhere near as good as they used to be. Same with the appetizers.

I know times are tough for restaurants, and that is why I know open range is trying. But I just wish they could bring back some of the quality and feel of what they were a few years ago. We will be back, and totally recommend as it’s one of the best places in town still, but just can’t get to 5 stars again for now.

This outdoorsy wooden kind of country building is actually a local restaurant.
I was fooled, I say!!!
Upon entering the long ramp up to the doors, I was eager to see what’s inside.

This very spacious, hearty countryside restaurant was extremely unique. There are multiple rooms available for a variety of activities and festivities. If you keep walking all the to the back, they do offer out of doors gatherings.
I would have loved to see the staff more engaging as a new customer with questions about their eatery. Next time, I’m sure.

WOW! I just fell in love with this beefy bacon cheesey burger, and the side items were fried pickles and greenbeans.
The burger was magnificent and beefy. The toppings, tomatoes, pickles, and onions were sliced just right to accent this beefy burger.

The fried pickles and green beans are heavily coated in batter with a delicious flavor, but both items are spicy. I was a little disappointed in the spice level in these two side items. I was not able to enjoy either one of them.
They have many other side items to try, and I will be back to enjoy!

The food was good. We ordered sandwich fare. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich, and it was good. We didn’t appreciate the tip “ask” at the register and then the posted signs to bus your own table. I did appreciate the thoughtfulness of the basket of supplies in the women’s restrooms.

It was one of the best burgers I have had. It’s better than Cedar house in North platte. The food was cooked to perfection. The wait staff was polite and prompt and helpful. Will go back. The decor was ok. Music is not bad. Beer and alcohol selection was varied and had good flavors.

Food and service were outstanding. This is worth a trip off of the highway to visit. The hamburgers we had were all cooked spot on with large beef patties with fresh trimmings.
The fried pickles are a must. Dipping sauces were tasty as well.

This place has typical bar food- burgers, chicken, etc. the fried pickles had good flavor, my husband got the chicken sandwich and he enjoyed it. I got the steak salad and my steak came out very undercooked-some pieces were still pink on the outside.

The atmosphere was fine, you order up front and sit down and they bring the food to you. It was kind of loud with unruly/screaming kids and loud tvs, but the kids are not the restaurant’s fault. The tables were dirty and sticky, I didn’t see anyone clean any of the tables. You clear the tables after you’re done eating, so I’m not sure if they even get cleaned.

We are from out of town so we won’t be back, but even if we were local we probably would not go back.
