Food was great, staff was friendly from the beginning.

Went to the steam plant with three other people this weekend. We ordered two crispy chicken sandwiches, beef, liver meal, and a Denver omelette meal. The first thing I noticed was that the entire staff had changed over to a new staff. I haven’t been there in a few years, but I didn’t recognize anybody there. The chicken breast themselves looked kind of white and milky looking after being fried. The picture on the menu showed a really nice and beautiful crispy breaded chicken breast for the sandwich. It was nowhere close to that. My wife had the beef liver and it was pretty dried out and she said not full of flavor. I had a Denver omelette that had an over abundance of cheese. A little too cheesy. The hashbrowns I ordered were burnt. I also ordered a cup of the vegetable soup. The taste is completely different than how it used to be. Plus, it was kind of oily on top. To be honest the only thing that we got that tasted great with the coffee. I’m sorry to be harsh, but I’m really disappointed in this place. The waitress asked me how the food was and we said, not that great. She said oh I’m sorry. Never an offer of anything in compensation or anything like that. When we left the person that was at the register was I believe the owner. He seemed very friendly when we went up to the counter and ask again how everything was. I said not good not really. He looked at me and said, oh. That was it nothing like what happened? What was wrong? Tell me about it. What can I do to make it better but nothing like that. I’m thoroughly disappointed and I will not be going back anymore.

We went to Steam Plant Family Restaurant for breakfast since we had an appointment in Belvidere. First impression was the restaurant was very clean, quaint a family style restaurant. I prefer these type of restaurants. We were greeted by a friendly older gentleman who is the owner, he showed us to our table, a young lady came right over with coffee. After looking over the menu we place our order, The food came out in a timely manner.
The coffee was okay, not as hot as I like it, the food also was not very hot, surprising because we did not wait long for our food to come out. I had the ” down south ” which is two eggs, two bacon strips, two sausage links a biscuit with sausage gravy. This dish was just ok, nothing special, I have had better at most other places, The biscuit is from frozen, the sausage gravy also tasted as if it were from a prepackaged frozen. The bacon and sausage were of low quality. My eggs were cooked as I had asked and were good. Over all this dish was about a 4, not so bad I couldn’t eat it but not that good either. My wife had the Swedish connection, which is two Swedish pancakes, two bacon and two sausage, she had the berry blast on the pancakes. She felt the bacon and sausage were also lacking, the Swedish pancakes with the berry blast was far two sweet, The description fails to mention that in addition to the fruit there is a very sweet icing as well. It was not very appetizing, she felt this dish was about a 3. Over all this is a friendly, clean place the food is mediocre and WAY OVER PRICED, this meal cost 42.26 before I left a 10.00 dollar tip and we were charged 3.99 percent for using my debit card, over 50.00 dollars for mediocre food. Not worth it. I know it is hard for these small mom and pop restaurants to compete with the fast food and bigger restaurants, but that is why they have to offer good quality food.

My go-to place (literally) for a quick pick-up of my favorite dishes. Cindy’s creations range of different flavors such as the (must try) ‘fruity granola waffle,’ one of my top favorite and healthier options. The other is the ‘berry blast Swedish pancakes,’ also delicious. The food, staff, and environment is phenomenal. Everyone is so cordial! 1000x/5—no doubt.

Food was delicious. They offered everything, like regular or sugar-free syrup & they even had powdered sugar, which I prefer on my pancakes. When I asked for decaf hot tea, she asked if I wanted green or black! My husband had pecans in his waffle & I had Swedish pancakes! So much variety! Waitress was so pleasant! Quite busy when we got there & I can see why! Walls lined with historic pictures as well as a row of antique sewing machines.
