My family and I pick up food from El Indio Mexican Restaurant on 34th Street at least twice a week. I’m not sure if both locations are owned by the same family, but the one on 34th has lost my business for good after today.
I ordered food for my three kids and my spouse. My spouse’s food was excellent, and my daughter’s quesadilla and fries were amazing. However, the kids’ burritos—now priced at $8.48 each (screenshot attached)—were disappointing. When I brought the food home and opened it, the kids’ burritos were half the size they normally are.
Last Thursday, we noticed the burritos were smaller too, but we didn’t say anything, assuming a different person was in the kitchen that day. When it happened again today, I drove back to the store and showed the manager. She said that the burrito size is “normal” and there was nothing she could do.
I asked if they could remake the food, especially since an employee had placed her hand directly on one of the burritos while showing it to the manager. The manager refused. I then asked for a refund and was told no.
I told her she had lost me as a customer. After years of being a loyal patron, I’m extremely disappointed in the service and the lack of accountability.

I grew up eating here and have seen it pass hands of ownership a few times. Prices are astronomical compared to value el Indio used to bring. Even though they have spruced the place up a bit it they still are missing what made it that neighborhood Mexican restaurant that we use to love. Unfortunately, I find that a few things are consistent. Mex is hit or miss. The burgers use to be my go to as a kid but now they are a no go. Hamburgers Togo are always has soggy buns beyond repair and unmelted cheese. Also if we order in the food late night tacos We ALL get sick. Sometimes some ordered just don’t make it home before becoming inedible. Quality and craft being a factor. Bring back the old el Indios ?

Still the best breakfast burrito in town!! Get it with chorizo and salsa verde for the win.
This is solid Mexican food, good service and locally owned & operated. They have a long list of options and are a clear family favorite. Their queso with chorizo is especially delicious. (are you noticing a theme?) Be sure to support them and check them out. The drive through makes it super convenient to grab dinner on the go.

If you’re a Tex-Mex aficionado, this place is for you. Everything is fresh and delicious. I always enjoy the a combo: tacos, enchiladas, burritos, in whatever combination you’d like with rice and beans, plus a drink! Delicious horchata is usually my drink of choice here. Servers are great. It’s pretty bare bones if you plan to eat there. Picnic tables outside at most locations and limited indoor seating here and in Tioga.

First time here at the Jonesville location for their soft opening. The salsa was scrumptious, the Margaritas were great (with black salt on the rim) and our food was delicious – Shrimp Tacos and a Bowl. Our waiter was friendly, courteous, helpful and attentive. This will be our go-to for Mexican food on date night, taking friends out night and anytime we are hungry for authentic Mexican cuisine. Thank you for a GREAT experience !

Highly disappointed in the experience I had tonight 1/23/26 @ 6:50p. I’ve been going here for years and even used them several times to cater events. Tonight I spent $52.04, I ordered 2 chicken quesadillas, a beef soft taco, a pint of cheese dip and a pint of salsa. When I received the receipt I asked one gentleman about the $5.96 charge for chips, he asked the young lady that took my order. She came to the window and said “ chips are only free with the small order of dip and salsa.” I said I’ve paid $13.59 for dip and the chips are not free? She again stated that chips are ONLY free with the small order of dip and/or salsa. I said ok, that makes no sense and I will never order a pint of anything from El Indio again, nor will I use them for catering. She said she was sorry and to have a good night. Once I got home I noticed the chicken quesadillas were not a meaty as they normally are. This visit has certainly changed my impression of El Indio. Not sure if I will visit them again. Extremely disappointed!

The staff were respectful, kind and helpful towards me as this was my first visit. The young lady helped me pick my order. Food made fresh and hot. Cheese (queso) and chips were delicious!! Reasonable prices and large portions. Can’t wait to go back and try more items. Highly recommend this place. Authentic Mexican dishes, made fast to order. Great atmosphere as well. Very clean!!

This little hidden gem is amazing!! There are two locations in gainesville. We got some takeout from the 34 Street location. Line moved very fast through the drive thru, Even with it being dinner time. Everything is reasonably priced there.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. When we ordered at the order window, We then had to drive around to the other side of the building, to pick up our food at the pick up window, and they were just as friendly. We don’t live far from there, so the food was still nice and hot when we got home very tasty. My wife got a chocolate malt. That was so thick as you can see in the photo. If you’re looking for authentic mexican food and don’t want to sit in a restaurant and want to take it and just go home. This is the place for you.!!!The other location is located on 13th street.By the university of florida. But I can only speak on the service. And food from this location.
They have recently painted the outside of the building, bringing a really cool artistic vibe to the atmosphere of the restaurant.

As a long time customer at the 13th St location it sucks to have had the service I did today at the newly opened Jonesville location. I understand if some kinks of opening so recently need to be worked out, but still. I ordered a platter and a side of fries, and did not receive the chips that come with a platter nor did I receive fries, but instead a side of rice, which was not initially in my to-go bag to begin with correct or not to what I ordered. The only thing handed to me initially through the window was the tin with my meal, and I had to ask for them for my fries only to receive rice. I guess that is my bad for not specifying French Fried Potatoes when fries and rice sound similar when said fast? Either way the whole experience was a slow and painful one. With only 2 cars in front of me, both of which having already ordered and one already having passed the 1st window, it took 20 minutes to get my food after finishing placing my order. Hopefully these things get worked out as the staff gets more used to the new location, but what a disappointment. I work in the area and have been so beyond excited for this location to open and bring some much needed variety to the area. I was planning on ordering it in for my upcoming birthday lunch celebration at work, but after today I am considering other options heavily. I would give this location another month to defrost for those who have had, and have expectations based on the other fantastic locations.
