Reviews
I moved to Gig Harbor in 2019. Passed by the Lunchbox Laboratory many times, as I shop at Safeway or Kohl’s. Thought it was just a sandwich shop. Last year, I started ordering a lot through UberEATS. I saw The Lunchbox on there and checked out the menu – how pleasantly surprised I was when I saw their Korean dishes! Also, they had a lot of good-value side dishes. I’ve ordered from them 11 times on UberEATS and once for takeout at the restaurant. Their food is always delicious. Their Korean food tastes SO good – I dare say better than some Korean restaurants I’ve been to. I am SO glad they are in Gig Harbor. They will definitely have my continued business. The lady at the front desk is super nice too.
The place has gotten more interesting with the addition of the Asian/Korean options on the menu.
The burgers are still awesome. One of few places anymore that will cook a burger to order and can actually nail a medium burger.
The quality of the ingredients is well above average. The bacon was flavorful and property cooked.
The Brussel sprouts were awesome. They were cooked through without being reduced to a soggy mess. They actually had texture to them, the outer layer was a bit crispy from being fried but the underlying layers of the Brussel sprouts were tender but didn’t fall apart on a fork. The vinaigrette used gave them an awesome flavor profile. Even without a bunch of the vinaigrette they were well prepared and didn’t have any of the off-putting flavors that turn alot of people away from Brussel sprouts.
The Hawaiian fried rice was amazing. The rice was properly cooked, it was tender but still had texture. All of the flavor profiles in the fried rice were awesome and well balanced. Even with the spam and bacon in it the rice was not overly salty. There was just enough pineapple and corn in the rice to give it a slight hint of sweetness that pulled all the flavors together while at the same time still allowing the flavors to stand on their own as well as giving it more dimension with the added textures.
If you can’t decide whether you want burgers or some kind of Asian inspired food lunchbox laboratory has become a one stop shop.
Like many different places, its location was in a retail park, mini-mall, or strip plaza; whatever term you want, Lunchbox Lab was surrounded by many shops, businesses, and other restaurants.
Walking inside, it had a little feel of modern industrial décor. I’d say close to being a fuss-free look; there were metal chairs and exposed piping, earthy tone colors with splashes of blues. I don’t know whether the piping is being used for something or only as a prop; of course, the many lunchboxes that finished the scheme set it off from other trendy industrial restaurants I have seen.
It was a lot of fun looking at those lunchboxes; it took us back to when we were very young, carrying one to school.
They had two menus, a regular one with several styles of Burgers; they also offered fish & chips, some appetizers, milkshakes, etc., and a special Korean menu. I don’t know if that is a regular or a limited-time menu.
I ended up ordering Korean chicken fried rice off the Korean menu; I can’t complain about the size; I had tons left over, even after my hubby helped himself to a few bites; nonetheless, it was full-flavored and yummy!
Hubby ordered a Smokin’ Hawaiian Burger with extra crispy fries and said it did not disappoint. That was a decent size burger, beef, bacon, pineapple, and jalapenos, and he mentioned cheese but wasn’t sure of the kind; what more can one ask for?
Our server Lizzy was bubbly with a warm and friendly smile, attentive but not overdone!
The bathroom was a little smaller, a little dated, but clean!
Unfortunately, the prices are a little on the higher side; there are a few things to factor in; aside from everything being a little higher in cost, this is Gig Harbor, and I read they are considered one of the more affluent cities in this area; They always have been. Also, the food was delicious, and our server was awesome!
The only little faux pas was my hubby asked for Ranch for his fries, and he received tarter.
So, if you are in that neighborhood looking for some really good food, consider Lunchbox Lab Restaurant.
The restaurant’s location is 4901 Point Fosdick Dr b800, Gig Harbor, Washington.
