Went in with my wife as a walk-in on a busy Saturday for lunch, got seated within 10-15 minutes at the bar.
I ordered the Roasted Eggplant Hummus as an appetizer, Lamb Shawarma for my main and my wife ordered the Pastrami oven pita. Hummus came out pretty quickly, but there was a bit of a gap before we got our mains. Service was also just average, maybe because the restaurant was packed.
The hummus was good – creamy, savory, flavorful and the roasted eggplant gave the dish a twist. The lamb shawarma was also very flavorful, seasoned well and the sauce was also good. My wife only had about 1/5 of the pastrami, as she noticed there was a strand of hair on the meat. We informed the waitress about our concern, and she took the pastrami plate to the manager, after which there was no communication as to how the issue would be resolved. We found out in the end that the pastrami would be removed from our bill, but neither the waitress nor the manager asked my wife if she wanted to get another plate or order something else. Good thing the lamb shawarma was a pretty good portion and I shared it with her, otherwise she wouldn’t have had anything else to eat for lunch apart from the appetizer. As an aside, we also noticed that one of the crew members preparing / handling the food kept putting the small pieces of printed paper / order tickets on top of some of the food / bread – I’m not sure how hygienic that is or if that is standard practice.
Overall, we probably would return and give this restaurant another chance, however there is definitely room for improvement in the food hygiene / safety aspect as well as service.
The true showstopper was the lamb shawarma—exceptional and easily the highlight of the meal. The chicken was great too, but the lamb absolutely stole the show. Drinks were excellent, and the service was warm and attentive.
The place was packed, so definitely make a reservation before coming. Overall, a fantastic experience—will absolutely be back.
Food: Mediterranean flavor with an Israeli twist an a high class spin. Delicious flavorful and fresh. Every dish was delicious. Often a plate has a good dish here or there but this place the entire menu is delectable.
Service: Excellent well mannered service. From the moment we walked in and were shown our table every server smiled at us politely. Dishes were fresh yet every single dish we ordered came quickly despite the full crowd
Ambiance: Mediterranean Greek vibe. Well decorated. Simple and classy. Comfortable seating and cozy. It does get crowded and a little noisy but not to a bothersome level.
Expect to pay about 100 per person but very well worth it. All across the bird from food to service this place excels in. Come here and expect to be wowed.
The food is absolutely phenomenal. Not a single dish misses. I’ve been here twice now and tried different dishes each time. The cabbage salad and chicken schnitzel are not to be missed.
Bora was really kind and fun. He was attentive and very helpful.
The host staff really needs an attitude adjustment along with better management skills. I waited 40 minutes for my table (while arriving on time). When I was offered a table I was offered something by the door (something that you offer a walk in). Meanwhile, it is 30 degrees outside. After charading us all over the restaurant (downstairs and back upstairs) we asked a manager for one of the three open more appealing tables.
Overall, our waiter (once we sat down) Bora was phenomenal. The food is truly exceptional, and the restaurant vibes are unlike anything currently in Manhattan.
My friend and I went here for dinner. She recommended it because she really enjoyed their Boca Raton location. The food was yummy and the portion size was nice as well! The inside is super cute and larger than it looks from the outside. You definitely have to get a hummus because 1) it’s yummy and 2) the pita is so soft, fluffy and good.
I would definitely recommend getting a reservation as this place was constantly packed since the moment we got there. There were also a lot of people waiting to be seated.
❤️What was ordered:
Beer, old fashion cocktail, mushroom hummus, crispy cauliflower, basket of lollipops, their branzino special dish.
❤️Stand outs:
Mushroom hummus and the special branzino
❤️Would I come back/recommend:
Yes – I would come back
Yes – I would recommend
Matthew also came to our table and explained all the dishes to us. He is very passionate about the culinary experience at Motek. David was our waiter and he’s excellent. The whole staff has the same mindset. We had a great time and will come again!
Food – Fine, but not memorable. With so many standout Mediterranean spots in NYC, this isn’t one I need to revisit.
• Dips: Tzatziki and spicy feta were both decent but forgettable.
• Bread: The clear standout – pillowy, warm, soft, and doughy. Absolutely excellent.
• Salmon ceviche: Fresh and pleasant, with a nice pop of sweetness from the pomegranate.
• Tuna tartare: Just okay, nothing distinctive.
• Cauliflower: Highly recommended by both the waitress and a neighboring table, but ultimately underwhelming.
• Zucchini latkes: By far the best dish of the night, crispy edges, tender inside, and full of flavor.
• Greek salad: The feta was rich, creamy, and delicious; the rest of the salad was unremarkable.
Service – Started strong but quickly declined. We waited an excessive amount of time for a second drink after requesting it from both our server and the manager, and still had to follow up again. One dish was also forgotten and incorrectly marked as “served,” eventually arriving last alongside a Greek salad we added at the end. Nothing was comped or acknowledged.
