Social Profile:

Located at the heart of Hanover Street, Lucia Ristorante is an institution in Boston’s North End. Opened in 1977, Lucia was the first restaurant to bring authentic Italian cuisine to Boston’s oldest neighborhood. We continue to combine traditional Italian favorites with innovative new dishes in our distinctive atmosphere. Ample summertime patio seating is available in the newly bricked courtyard of our neighbor, St. Stephen’s Church.

Bustling restaurant with an old-country setting serving traditional Italian plates since 1977.

Please go anywhere else in the North End. You’ll find better food and far better service for similar, if not lower, prices.

We arrived on time for our reservation at 5:30 and were seated right away while waiting for the rest of our party. After that, we were completely ignored for 15 minutes. No greeting, no water, no drink order. When I tried to flag someone down, I was told, “I’m not your server,” and she walked away.

Once our full party arrived, we attempted to order appetizers, but the wrong items were brought out because our server walked away before finishing taking the order. Drinks took another 15 minutes to arrive. Our food order was placed at 6:20, and the food didn’t hit the table until 6:50. I ordered a salad.

We had a 7:00 PM show, so after sitting there for over an hour, we had to ask for our meals to be packed to-go and rush out the door. The food was average at best and absolutely not worth the price point.

Between the slow, inattentive service and the underwhelming food, this place missed the mark entirely. Would not return.

We came here as a party of four and unfortunately, the experience was just okay. The food was not what I expected — it tasted more like something pre-made, almost with a plastic-like quality, rather than a freshly cooked meal. Definitely not great.

Service was also slow. I first asked another waiter to send someone over to take our order, and even after that, it still took about 15–20 minutes before our server finally came. I expected more attentiveness and fresher-tasting dishes.

Old school Italian spot that delivers on quality and flavor. Portions were just the right size for the average person. Specials of the day and regular menu items were both excellent.

This place is a hidden gem… if you get to know the bar staff in the bottom they are a true gem. Make you feel sooo comfortable and they are so good at what they do. We popped in for a drink while getting to know the North End of Boston and ended up canceling dinner plans just because they were so involved with their customers and we felt we should just stay for dinner! Amazing amazing crew i must emphasize!!!! The only awkward thing i felt was a manager lady that would pop out as a sargent out of the blue and make the vibe uncomfortable!!!! So i had to ask who she was. The bar staff made it all so good to stay and hang out and i thought of leaving a few times because of her unwelcome stares to us and the bar staff…but no way…. Alex, carlos, Adriana and Isabel were the best. Couldn’t recommend the awesome drinks and them enough! Thank you for the memorable drinks and dinner! We shall be back!

We walked around North end of Boston and prelisted this as a place to eat. Luckily their patio was empty and we got a place to sit immediately.

The service was prompt, impeccable and timely.

The food in the pictures was absolutely delicious. We shared the dishes between the five of us as we had stuffed ourselves with some desserts from Mike’s Pastries and Modern Pastries. Also had a late brunch at Better Bagles prior to our Uber trip to the north end.

Parking would be a huge challenge. Lots of delivery trucks double park and traffic moving thru is a pain. But the street keeps moving and no one honks.

Food quality was great with decent options for non-vegetarians. We got 2 chicken pasta dishes and loved them both. The portions are enough for 1 person but not enough if you are very hungry. No kid’s menu and almost no options in the menu for vegetarians either. The place is very lively on the weekends (we went on Saturday). Selection and quality of desserts was great and changes periodically. Overall a great place to visit and would recommend it!

I enjoyed the cranberry juice and foods there. There were so many fairly priced foods, so it took me awhile to decide what I wanted to eat. Also, the waiter, Luis P, was amazing. He did a great job at being friendly and patient with us. He also did a great job at serving the food. The day I went to this restaurant for dinner with my boyfriend was on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

I visited Lucia Ristorante while walking through Boston’s North End, and it felt like a classic Italian restaurant right in the heart of the neighborhood. The place has a warm, old-school atmosphere with cozy dining rooms and a lively crowd, which fits perfectly with the historic Italian vibe of Hanover Street.

I ordered a pasta dish, and it tasted rich and comforting, just like traditional Italian cooking. The restaurant is known for homemade pasta, classic dishes like lasagna and maccheroni, and recipes inspired by the Abruzzo region of Italy.

What stood out to me was how authentic the place felt. Lucia has been part of the North End dining scene since 1977, making it one of the long-standing Italian restaurants in the area.

Overall, Lucia Ristorante is a solid choice if you want a traditional Italian meal in Boston’s Little Italy. The food is hearty, the atmosphere is lively, and it’s a great stop after walking around the historic North End.

Superb food and great old Italian ambience. Service a little slow but very friendly. The home made pastas were perfect and the mushrooms on the bruschetta just right. Highlights were the trio pasta and the lemon sorbet and espresso pudding. The eggplant parm delectable:)
