We didn’t have a reservation but were seated immediately by the hostess who was also our server. Her name was Heather and she was friendly and attentive.
We ordered the crab hush puppies to start and they were fantastic.
I had the Jamaican shrimp and my man had the bourbon chicken – we both got chef’s rice and vegetable of the day. The food was delicious. The flavor on the shrimp was so good: I can tell you while I was eating my meal, it was so good I had totally forgotten that we had the hush puppies – and we had a couple corn muffins too – I should have been full but it was so good I couldn’t not eat it. I was secretly hoping my man would not eat all of his so I could take some for leftovers.
We declined dessert but I almost wish we had gotten something. Our server had told us that she made the pumpkin bundt cake that day and we saw it as we were leaving and I almost went back in for a piece to go.
The place was pretty full in the front. I think there was a bar and more dining space in the back. Prices were very reasonable considering the big portions and superb quality of food. Parking was a small lot or on the street. Trust me, if you have to park a block or two away, it will be worth it.
P.S. The dessert was melt in your mouth, too.
The one downside I can think of is the parking. There might not be space during busy hours, it’s all street parking.
Upon taking our seats, our waitress introduced herself and talked us through the specials before giving us time to decide. The room was gently lit, music upbeat and loud enough to enjoy it but quiet enough that we did not have to struggle at all to talk over it.
Drink wise, we each ordered The Hurricane – which consisted of Orange & Pineapple Juice with Grenadine, Amaretto, and both Light and Dark Rums made to perfection. Our server also brought us some buttered corn bread, which was delicious!
I opted for the well portioned Homestyle Meatloaf, which was served atop Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Gravy and Veggies and I could not envision leaving without trying the coleslaw, so I ordered that as a side.
When my dish arrived, my mouth cried tears of joy. The coleslaw had a distinct, tangy buttermilk ranch taste to it. I am not certain of the combination of ingredients in the Meatloaf, however I am reasonably certain that I sensed a Honey BBQ sauce base and perhaps even a hint of Maple Syrup. Even if I didn’t, the combination of flavors was AMAZING! I enjoyed and finished every last bite and even scraped my plate after I was done to take in the remaining traces of gravy!
We will definitely be back to this hidden gem, as it definitely sits as a top 5 Erie restaurant destination!
July 2023, I was invited here after months of hearing about how great the food was. To my surprise, it was really good. The atmosphere is warm, diverse, and friendly. I’ve always been one to meet the owner and or the chef who prepared the food that day, but I wanted to meet the owner(s)
I was able to meet one of the two sisters, who owns this nice restaurant, her name is Karen. Nice lady who reminds my of my Auntie:) Made me feel like it was at Home.
The second time was March 2024, and this time reservations were made, and again, I had the same exact feeling I did the year before. Thank You!⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
