We used to love this place but, it’s gone seriously downhill! The place is absolutely filthy! We sat at the bar and spent the night swatting at fruit fly’s and gnats, they were everywhere! The beer sign next to me had two dead mosquitoes smashed on it! The place smells dirty! The liquor and mixer bottles have pour spouts on them and I’m sure there are probably insects in the bottles! There was somebody sitting in street clothes watching TV at the bar at a high volume and when he jumped behind the bar to help the staff and he was answering their questions, I realized he must be the manager! Absolutely unprofessional! I managed a high end restaurant for years and couldn’t believe what I was seeing! This is an extremely poorly managed and run restaurant, its dirty, staff wears whatever they want there are no uniforms, it seems to me that ownership and management either don’t care or gave up a long time ago! Too bad because its a beautiful location!

We had lunch yesterday at the Big River Grille, perch platter was plentiful and delicious. The other was a French Dip sandwich, also very good. Our server Cody was very polite and friendly. I only gave it 4 stars because the building needs some updates and cleaning.

Where to begin…the pros- the real estate lends itself to a fantastic view of St. Clair River and the freighters, the staff for the luncheon reception (that I attended), were very polite, friendly, and quick to serve. It’s downhill from there…cons- both inside and outside of the place looks like a has been. On the outside, in need of paint, repairs, and a new roof. Inside, worn ripped carpeting, peeling paint, dirty and broken windows, toilet and ceramic tiles, foul smelling bathroom with overflowing wastebasket (and we were the first patrons of the day). Food was inedible, chicken was bone dry with a dried out tasteless sauce, cod looked like it had sawdust on top, sirloin steak was half inch thick, tough and devoid of flavor , salad had a rubbery texture (only 2 dressing choices). Not sure how this place is staying afloat but they may want to consider a visit from the Restaurant Rescue crew…and fast. Until then spend your hard earned money elsewhere. 1 star mandatory required to post review.

We’ve been there twice in the past few months. Same experience both times. A large private party going on and short shrift given to regular patrons. Very nice waiter, Kyle, explained that our dinners could take a while bcuz of the large party. He brought out nice bread rolls and our starters. It wasn’t long til our meals came out. I ordered rotisserie chicken w bbq sauce and sides. Chicken was stone cold. Kyle took the chicken back and had them prepare a new one. I kept the sides which were delicious. As it was a while before the new chicken came out (it was piping hot) Kyle offered to box it up for me. The food otherwise was good. That said, it’s my feeling that the owner has lost interest in this location as he is branching out in many other locations. BRG is worn looking, the family restroom doesn’t lock (big sign on the door), artificial flower arrangements are dirty, the carpet is unappetizingly stained. It is on a beautiful lakeside site and could be a stunning restaurant. All the staff we encountered were helpful and friendly. We overheard someone at the next table ask for contact information for the owner which the staff said they were unable to provide and that the general manager was not available.

Wednesday is half off not and its not fair to tack on20% tip when your not worth 5%. Waitress was horrible, food was just as bad! It’s hit and miss with that place. Definitely not going back unless Sarah Cedar is working…smh.

After The Little Bar in Marine City gave another group our reserved party for 20, we had to find another place to eat ASAP. We called McRae’s and they said they could accommodate us. We arrived 10 minutes later and they had a large table waiting for us. Our waitress was amazing, very attentive. She instantly took our drink orders and brought out fresh bread. Everyone’s dinner came out at the same time, which can be difficult with such a large party. Food was delicious! My only complaint is that I wish they had more vegetarian options!

I never ever write reviews, but Mother’s day lunch at Big River Grille was the most disgusting meal I have ever paid for. $53 for two adults getting the buffet with one soda. Ridiculously expensive for the extremely poor quality.
Basically, it looked like they went to Sam’s club, bought a bunch of food and warmed it up in the microwave. The ambrosia salad looked like snot, fruit salad was awful, and the meat was overcooked and extremely dry.

This was a big disappointment. It took 2 hours to get through a meal and most of that was wait time. The food was mediocre at best. It was overpriced even for the half off night. They automatically added 20% to the bill even though the service was terrible.

We were charged more on our bill than the prices marked on the menu…. When we questioned it our server informed us that “for some reason it was priced higher in the computer”… She promptly refunded us the difference. The table behind us was also complaining about price difference at the start of our meal, I guess that was what alerted us to this.. Seems like this is common practice.

Great atmosphere. Enjoyed sitting by the window and looking out across the water. Food and service was excellent. I ordered seafood linguini. There was more seafood than noodles. I was in sheet heaven.. Can’t wait to go back again!
