Today, the bar area consists of the original structure making it San Francisco’s oldest restaurant in the same location since 1861. A fact we cherish.

Great San Francisco treasure. Old time vibes, unpretentious and welcoming. SF sports memorabilia line the walls. Two dining areas, the one where the bar is has TVs and feels more lively. Service is courteous and attentive. Food is fresh ,(we had raw oysters and steamed mussels) and portions were good.
Drinks were fantastic and made well. I had a mezcal Negroni and my dining pals had a pisco based cocktail that was sublime and white wine.
Cioppino well seasoned and fish shrimp clams were fresh and broth had lots of depth. Wished I had more bread!
My friend had the octopus appetizer and she loved it. My other friend had the branzino and she said she’ll be coming back for it.
Menu is extensive and I am looking forward to trying the pastas and “sizzlers”, clam chowder
and fish and chips.
Oh, and don’t sleep on the clam broth amuse buoche!!!
All in all a nice place for dinner, drinks and brunch. Welcoming space that takes you back to the good old days in S.F.
Parking is tricky, I was lucky to find a spot right behind the building. My friends parked about a mile away and took an Uber. Noise wise if there are some lively tables, it can be a bit loud. So glad this classic establishment has returned.

Very good food, service and decor. The food was indeed very good with one of their speciality dishes the mussels and the clam chowder. On the menu there are chicken nuggets (they are very good and come in a faire amount). We also tried the lobster roll (with fries) that was very tasty and delicious. The staff is super friendly and polite. In terms of seatings there is only indoor seating. There is street parking that is usualy avaliable but tricky to find. Over all eating in a 1861 building with awesome food and great staff is worth the price.

Overall great experience, love that there’s a seafood restaurant in this area. Restaurant is decorated well, and service is good. Ordered the fried calamari, clams, risotto, and cioppino. The calamari was a bit on the saltier side but good portion and fried well. Clams were my favorite dish, super fresh and flavored well. Risotto was fantastic as well, lobster tail was not overcooked, and generous amount of seafood. My partner got the cioppino and it did look like it was on the smaller portion for the price, but he said the flavor was good. Overall, would come back!

Food here was great overall, I liked fried calamari and risotto. Risotto and squad ink linguine were A little salty to me. Street Parking was available, though it would be hard during peak time, but I am not sure own parking lot available or not.

Always a pleasure to make the drive from San Jose for the best San Francisco historical dining site and the best cioppino on the globe. Ask for a little chopped up sarono on the side. You’re welcome. Always great service and family friendly atmosphere.

Such a classic San Francisco spot! The Old Clam House has that perfect mix of local history, great seafood, and warm hospitality. The warm clam soup they serve as a starter is absolutely delicious, and the Dungeness crab is a must. The clams and garlic bread are fantastic too, and the old-school charm makes it feel like you’re stepping back in time (in the best way). Definitely worth a visit if you want a true SF dining experience.

I ordered the lobster roll with french fries as the side. We usually love the old clam house but this time, the fries were too salty to eat and the rolls lobster meat was similar (I had my family check that I wasn’t exaggerating, they confirmed) so I would bot order this dish from them or recommend to anyone but the delivery was fast, arrived still hot.

11/10 One of the best restaurants I’ve visited in the bay. I was here in 2025 on a day trip with my boyfriend to the bay and stopped here on our way back home. Each single dish we had was handcrafted passionately. I can taste the love and dedication that everyone did to make those dishes we had exquisite. And don’t be mistaken with the portion sizes, it’s truly quality over quantity here. Our waiter who I unfortunately forgot his name was delivering with grace and a swiftness I hardly see know a days. Coupled with the ambience and decor the Old Clam House was a pleasure to dine at.

Stopped in for a late afternoon happy hour at the bar. The food was outstanding, and the bartender provided exceptional service. This 100+-year-old restaurant is full of character — we loved every moment.

After decades of living in the Bay Area, I finally walked into this legendary spot and now understand why it’s been around since the horse-and-buggy days.
First off, they serve you a free clam broth that feels like a warm, briny hug. The cioppino was hearty with tender calamari and prawns so big they could bench-press a crab. The clams were so fresh they high-fived as they slid down the hatch. Halibut was excellent.
The vibe? Imagine if your Italian grandma opened a nautical museum and also really wanted you to eat well. The place is dripping with charm, the service is smoother than a buttered baguette. Can’t wait to come back!
