The store hours clearly state that the location closes at 9:00 PM. My family and I arrived at approximately 8:14 PM, well before closing time, and entered the restaurant expecting to place a standard dinner order. However, we were informed that cheeseburgers, fries, onion rings, and the Hungry Man Combo were no longer available. Shortly after, the iced tea dispenser was also removed.
At no point did staff indicate that the grill and fryer had already been shut down for the evening. If the kitchen equipment was closed prior to the posted closing time, this should have been communicated clearly — either by signage on the door or by informing customers upon entry that the full menu was no longer available.
Had we known that most of the core menu items were unavailable, we would have chosen to dine elsewhere. For example, Portillo’s is only ten minutes from our home. However, we chose this location specifically because we prefer James Coney Island.
It is disappointing to arrive well before closing time and be unable to order staple menu items without any prior notice. I respectfully ask that management address this issue to ensure that posted hours accurately reflect when full menu service ends, or that customers are clearly informed when kitchen operations close early.
We genuinely enjoy James Coney Island and hope this feedback helps improve the customer experience moving forward.
I dove into one of their gourmet chili cheese dogs, and let me tell you, it wasn’t just a hot dog. It was a full-blown flavor parade with chili leading the marching band and cheese tossing confetti. Then came the Baja dog, stacked like it had something to prove. Chipotle mayo, guacamole, pico, cilantro, jalapeños… it was like a taco truck crash-landed on a hot dog in the best way possible.
To wash it all down, I grabbed a pink lemonade. It was so sweet I’m pretty sure my pancreas sent me a strongly worded letter. Still drank it. No regrets.
James Coney Island doesn’t play around. If your diet’s looking for a cheat day, this is where it should go to party.
The staff is well-trained, friendly and accommodating. JCI is a neighborhood and a family tradition with us. Tastes and feels like the real deal.
