Cracker Barrel is edible, these dishes were SUPERB.
Friday Chicken and Dumplings were fantastic! The biscuit was to die for. Sampled my wifes fried chicken and was sucking the fry batter of the bones!
Was my first introduction to fried green tomatoes and was a huge fan! Breading on them was DELCIOUS. I ate almost the entire appetizer plate as they came from the kitchen, and I declined the suggestion of ranxh with them as the flavor just bare was too good to mask with ramch!
The tomatoes were my last desert dish as the. waitress made a mistake with the appetizer slip in the kitchen, but she comped them for free as they came out at the end.
They were as dessert! The crown jewel!
Somehow I managed to eat the large chef salad too. We had skipped lunch on our drive in as the local flash flooding and severe thunderstorms coming down the Mountains from North Carolina delayed our travels.
We had no room left for cobbler or pie but am sure those would have been heavenly.
Was stuffed with fried foods and dumplings, beets were out of this world and the green beans had to have a touch of bacon in their prep as they were all absolutely delicious.
We did come hungry, but everything was fantastic.
If we ever go through Charlotte to Augusta GA again we will definitely make it a point to plan another meal here!
My wife is from a PA Dairy Farm so the historical local farming pictures made a neat atmosphere connection. The atmosphere is very charming we thought.
Cracker Barrel eat your heart out!!! Avoid the chains and try this local gem!!!!!
When we are back in the area, we will definitely eat here again.
Their sweet tea is amazing!!!
Delicious fried chicken and squash, hush puppies and cabbage.
Huge portions and very reasonably priced.
The chess pies were great too.
My only sight disappointment was I think they use margarine, not butter. But maybe that is a southern thing.
Upon arrival, it was a nice quaint family-owned restaurant. In a small town where seemingly everybody knew everybody based on the conversations that were being had. For me it was too cold. Ceiling fans blowing air on food made the food cold fast. I ordered a garden salad, steamed cabbage, and cucumbers in Italian dressing. My friend ordered the flounder plate (which is nowhere on the menu But was stated to have coleslaw that never came). He said it was great. I did not like the cabbage. I’ve never had soggy steamed cabbage marinated in some type of oil. I added the soggy cucumbers to the salad which contained cheese, lettuce, a spot of tomatoes, shredded carrots and whole beets. As my friend completed his homework, I was grateful that he was able to use their power to charge his computer in order to do his homework. Of course in this family-owned establishment there is no Wi-Fi but I had my hotspot so it all worked out. The servers were nice and Grace was shown. We did not get dessert before. I’m only eating fruits and vegetables at this time so I cannot post on that. If I was eating southern food at the time I’m sure it would have been a great option for me. Again, we just googled the place to meet in between. That was not a chained restaurant. I’m sure it would have been more enjoyable had I not been sitting directly under a ceiling fan freezing. We arrived at 6:00 p.m. And the restaurant closes at 8:00 so maybe the freshness of the food would have been better had we arrived earlier.
You get a meat and three here for $11.99 (as of 10/23/2022). The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy outside, tender and juicy inside. The side options are plentiful. I especially loved the candied yams and the beets. Beef tips with gravy were also delicious. Service was fast and friendly. We will definitely stop if we come this way again.
