We visited this restaurant last Sunday March 1st 2026. It’s a school holiday yet surprisingly the restaurant wasn’t crowded. We had previously tried to book via TheFork without success. It seems they had blocked out dates until the second week of March so we arrived with our fingers crossed. Luckily, there was no queue and we were immediately ushered to Table number 6 located right in front of the kitchen with a mini counter to the left. The restaurant is intimate and small so it gets noisy when its fully packed.
Each table has a QR code for payment which seemed convenient as we were in a bit of a hurry. We arrived at 1pm hoping to make it to the 2:30pm horse show. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it. While the staff was moving the service felt disorganized. We were approached with the wrong orders several times and despite being seated right in front of the kitchen we felt overlooked. Other tables who arrived after us were served first and I had to wave for attention multiple times. On a positive note the waiter who took our order spoke great English.

As for the food:
Both my husband and I ordered the braised beef. Mine with mashed potatoes and his with seasonal veggies. While the beef was tender it had a very strange “funky” aftertaste that lingered for a long time in our mouths. It was so intense that neither of us had an appetite for dinner later plus my husband ended up with an upset stomach.

The Kids’ Meal: Our son had the pasta with white sauce. He didn’t enjoy the taste and barely ate it though he did like his coupe Chantilly dessert.

The Desserts: I was incredibly excited to try the legendary crème Chantilly at its birthplace but it was a disappointment. My gros chou was “extremely” sweet to the point where I had to close my eyes. It felt like eating straight sugar with a strange minty undertone. My husband had the café gourmand which unfortunately is also very sweet.

A tip on the QR code:
We decided to pay via the QR code while waiting for our desserts to save time. This was a mistake! Once you pay the system seems to “close” the order which caused an even longer delay for our desserts to arrive. We had to call the waiter over again to remind them we were still waiting.

Overall, while we enjoyed the experience of eating inside the Chateau and found the staff nice and approachable the food simply didn’t live up to our expectations. Next time if we come back in the area we’ll definitely try this dessert shop called L’Atelier de la Chantilly located on the main road with good reviews hence explains the long queue. They offer wide range of desserts with Chantilly on it. Hopefully next time ☺️

Note for a fellow diner: If the lady sitting at the table to my left (by the wall) sees this: you forgot your mobile phone. We alerted the waiter and he took it for safekeeping. Fyi.

Wow! Just wow. From the presentation to the taste and of course the service this place was top notch from beginning to end. For 37 Euros I was able to get an appetizer, main course and a dessert period and it is located inside the kitchen of the Chateau Chantilly.

We had a special birthday celebration lunch! Small menu, with great options for all courses, including vegetarian. Space was intimate, waiters were very attentive and professional. We would highly recommend this restaurant for a special lunch, including cream de la Chantilly.

Eating in the historic kitchen was an interesting atmosphere. Some of the original equipment is still there, which is interesting but the high ceilings and stone walls make for very poor acoustics, making every sound echo. The meal itself was fantastic, the gravy was exemplary. The bread provided was stale however and the fries were sad. Service was efficient but not friendly. Overall very good.

Food wise, the entree and mains were just alright but the dessert especially the Chantilly cream was amazing. The service was extremely slow. It took them such a long time to take our orders and then a very long time to deliver our food. There was an option to pay the bill via a QR code but given the shoddy network service (only 3G due to the thick walls), that’s not even possible to do. While the architecture of the dining hall is very interesting, it was also very loud. Some of the tables are really close to each other so everyone is going to hear everything.

The overall style of the restaurant complements the castle beautifully, and the atmosphere is quite pleasant. The staff were also friendly. However, when it comes to the food, it was really disappointing. The set menu is priced at €30 per person, excluding drinks, which is reasonable, but the presentation and taste—starting from the appetizers to the main course and dessert—were all a letdown. I absolutely do not recommend dining here. Just grab a drink and enjoy the ambiance instead. Hopefully, the quality of the food will improve in the future.

We spent 2 days visiting the castle and weate at the Capitainerie twice…it was a wonderful experience which enhanced our visit to Chantilly.
The dishes looked wonderful and tasted so good. The waiters were ever so busy and yet helpful and very cheerful. The food was served in good time.
We loved the room.
We highly recommend this amazing place.
We planned to go back as soon as possible.

Went for coffee and deserts. Staff was getting things mixed up. We tried in French, then English. Almost got what we asked for. Quality wise, very rewarding.

Didn’t looove my main dish (the Flemish stew) though I think that’s a personal preference as it was my first time trying the dish, though it was cooked perfectly with the meat super tender – but the soup app and the Chantilly cream dessert were both great! As was my cappuccino. Overall prices were fair for such a prime location, service was fast and kind, and I’d come back! Would just order a different main 🙂
