I would rate the food a 3.5 pretty good but not my favorite. Waitress upcharged me very sneakily for my meal, service was decent other than that. Definitely on the more expensive end of Chinese food for what you get. Nicer atmosphere than most Chinese places though

The food was so delicious! We haven’t been here for years. We were so impressed with the food that we will be back very soon. We had a family style meal with lots of variety.

Mandarin chicken all breading no sightings of chicken could be found anywhere. Pork chow mein mostly noodles from a can. Exactly like La Choy. Our entire meal was inedible. Never again coming back here. Ugh.

My family has been coming to the Hong Kong Café since late 70s early 80s since that time I think the son has taken over and it’s been remodeled and I feel like it’s still consistent for the meals. I love the lunch combos where you can pick from several different items in a couple different categories I always get the pork fried rice and the Hong Kong salad and moo goo gai pan love it always have leftovers and I like the egg drop soup and my husband always gets the hot and sour a cup comes with your meal. The place is still freshly remodeled even though I think it’s probably been five or 10 years it looks fantastic. They’ve always had a fish tank that when my kids were little, they just love to go watch the fish. My server the last two times we went actually was very nice and attentive and we went late both times so I’m sure they wanted to kind of wrap things up for the night so I would say he was super nice! This place is a Nampa staple. You gotta try it out.

Its been quite a few years since we have been here so we thought we would give it a shot. To our surprise there are a ton of gluten free choices, which is important since my wife has celiac. It is very clean and well kept and the staff is very nice. Food is just great and our son loved his sweat and sour pork with fried rice. The sauce comes on the side so he could dip them like chicken nuggets which was important to him. They also deliver so that is a great option for us now too. We ill be coming back for sure. The prices are very reasonable to!!

Made a reservation online and was seated on time. Food service was slow and took a while.
Wasn’t as full for a Friday night.
Main entre food portions are enough for two!
Also like how it’s kid friendly.

The Hong Cong Restaurant is in the corner of 12th Ave and 1st in Nampa Idaho. It has a beautiful, and peaceful atmosphere. The staff is alert and very kind. We ordered The Rickshaw A menu item for 2. It included house salad, pork and seeds, 6 crab Ragoon, chow mein , pork fried rice, pineapple sweet and sour pork, and fortune cookies and mints.

At one time the Hong Kong restaurant was the best chinese food in Nampa, but sadly that was a long time ago. I haven’t been a fan for 4 or 5 years after an incident where i had to wait 2 hours for my families food that was supposed to be delivered and wasn’t. It wasnt my choice tonight but an older family member whose birthday it was asked for it. I should have known when i went to pick up the order and the take out menu has a handwritten message saying, “Prices have changed”. Yes they have a lot! But what has not changed is the painfully slow service. I can sympathize if they were busy, but don’t say 20 minutes when you really mean an hour and twenty minutes.

Got the “Rickshaw B” menu for family takeout. Not great.
Biggest issue was that the lo-mein noodles and beef and broccoli items were very soggy/overcooked. The Asian noodles felt like somebody’s grandma was trying to make chicken noodle soup, but ran out of broth.
The “Asian Salad” might work dining in the restaurant, but here it was soggy garbage, and weird. Overall the flavors and textures were very “off” according to the family. They said other unkind things about the food, but I’d rather not mention them. The pork and seeds pork in the paper bag were surprisingly flavorless, and we ended up giving most of it to the dog.
The big cut up egg roll was not quite as good as our homemade ones.
The fried rice was edible, not great.
The sweet-and-sour chicken (mandarin chicken?) was quite nice.
Our neighbor said this place was good, and had recommended it. Maybe they were having an off night? Hopefully they do better in the future with the food.

On the plus side the server was great. The food not so good. The tempura shrimp was doughy and for some reason served with tarter sauce. When I asked for a sauce to go with the shrimp like a sweet and sour I was told it was .89 cents. The chow mein was off, the beef tasted old. When I asked for chili sauce which is a staple in most Asian restaurants I was told it was .99 cents. I had to laugh. I didn’t order anything else since it wasn’t good. Bottom line frozen Chinese would have been better. If you dine there then take your own condiments
