At first glance, I wondered whether this place was actually in business. The windows were tinted, and there was no sign of movement inside.

At 4:30 PM, the door unlocked without fanfare.

The experience became much more fun after that. The host staff was fantastic. Funny and engaging.

The food was unique and delicious. The tamales were sweet corn.. The salty sweet, was really good. The poblano stuffed pepper was also really good. I got it with the extra shrimp, totally the right answer.

Becca, the general manager, was very accommodating. She helped move tables for my large group so everyone can see each other easier.

Most of the people in my group had been here before, and I can see why. At least half of the group ordered a dessert to go. Super cool little place with a fun, energetic vibe.

Nice Mexican food with extensive vegan/vegetarian menu. The guacamole was average and we ordered the large amount of the chips wear ok. The mushroom poblano quesadillas was very good and I added jalapeños. The cheese enchiladas were good. The burritos was good also. The margaritas were excellent. Nice atmosphere. Staff works together well.

Appetizers were pretty good but we weren’t too big of a fan of the entrees, were just picky on our Mexican food in general. The cocktails were delicious though

Good, flavorful food with trendy atmosphere and attentive staff. We tried the habanero shrimp tacos and the brisket tacos. They did not shy away from spice.

Seated immediately without reservation on a Saturday but we got there early. The place was full by the time we left.

Love Luna Maya! One of the best restaurant atmospheres in the whole Hampton Roads area. The portions are a great size for the average to high costs. The last time I went, I had requested we sit in the back room because it’s my favorite, and they were so accommodating. I also would just come here for some tequila and that HUGE slice of rum cake. I gladly ate that whole thing, and I look forward to doing it again. Don’t sleep on the rum cake…

Perfect date spot for a cool summer evening. We decided to sit outside on their patio and we were surrounded by the sweet smells of the jasmine flowers draped along the walls. The drinks were tasty, with a great selection of top shelf tequilas. I adored the chips and salsa container because we both got our own salsa section. And if you have a fiancée like mine who destroys chips and salsa before you can blink, it’s the perfect set up. The food came out very quickly and the flavors were delicious! Wonderful date, highly recommend!

Luna Maya is a take on Hispanic food that does well. I wanted to give the food 4 stars but it just isn’t quite there despite the stuffed poblanos being excellent due to the price value of menu items not meeting the expectations for the dollar amount paid. A side of their habanero hot sauce in a TINY cup was a 1.50 which was wild. The restaurant wasn’t busy yet the service was very slow. I think Luna Maya is a decent place but definitely has room to improve. Give it a shot, maybe it was an off night for me.

The interior design is definitely a highlight—the decorator clearly went all out, and the space has a fun, energetic vibe. That said, the room we were seated in had a strong echo, which made conversation a bit difficult.

As other reviews have pointed out, this place seems to aim for Latin fusion but misses the mark. The chips we received were clearly store-bought, and the passion fruit skinny mojito was underwhelming—light on alcohol, lacking freshness, and not worth the $13 price tag.

For the first time in years, I chose not to order an entrée. After seeing the presentation of the appetizer and tasting the drink, I had enough. My partner, who is from Puerto Rico, didn’t even feel comfortable trying the water.

rice is bland, tamale is a joke is like liquid corn soup poured on top of the husk, beans are liquified, nothing tastes authentic let alone appetizing. not mexican food. service is good though and the place is decorated nicely.

Worst $100 spent while leaving all the food I ordered on the table as I walked out since it was inedible. The “beans” weren’t even solid. The tamale was just sweet corn on top of the tamale wrapper and then topped with meat. The tuna was dry and the taco came deconstructed.

The guacamole was good but the chips were definitely store bought.

The service was great. Music choice was questionable and offensive at best.

Also only saw 1 “ethnic” person working in an ethnic restaurant. Personally, I feel like this restaurant is catered to the “Karen” kind. The ones that want to feel like they’re eating food from another nationality without the commitment to the actual culture.
