LSU-area fixture dating to 1941 serves a diner menu 24/7 in a classic lunch-counter setting.

Really nice old school cafe. Came Monday 9am no wait for 2. Our server Maddie was great. I had the seafood Louie my girl the eyes Cletus! Both were fantastic their biscuits are really good too. Had been waiting for some good creole food and this hit the spot. Unfortunately the pups had to wait in the car

This is basically a Baton Rouge version of Waffle House on LSU’s campus. We visited on game day, so there was about a 30 minute wait. I ordered the combo #1. This combo included two eggs, a sausage patty, hash-browns, and I ordered French toast for a up-charge. This restaurant has a simple concept, but everything was very good.

Louie’s Café is a true Baton Rouge institution, and you should know right away that this is a classic greasy spoon. You shouldn’t expect the height of cleanliness or sophisticated ambiance, but the dining experience is truly exceptional. The staff is consistently friendly and hustles to keep up with the non-stop crowds, making you feel welcome even when the place is slammed. The main event is the food, specifically the practically life-changing banana pecan pancakes. These fluffy, buttery disks are stacked high with sweet bananas and crunchy pecans, delivering a comforting, stick-to-your-ribs experience that is easily the best breakfast in town. It’s a great spot for comfort food and an absolute must-do, particularly on an LSU game day. I will definitely be back for another stack!

We had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at Louie’s Café during our Memorial Day vacation, and it was like stepping back in time in the best way possible. There’s something so comforting about a true old-school diner, and Louie’s captures that charm perfectly, from the throwback tables and chairs to the classic ceramic coffee cups with saucers that instantly transported us to simpler times.
We didn’t order anything fancy—just the basics—but everything was done exceptionally well. The hash browns, in particular, had a unique spin that absolutely delivered on flavor. It’s the kind of place where every detail feels thoughtful, from the friendly service to the hearty, satisfying food.
One of the first things we noticed was a group of older gentlemen gathered over coffee and conversation, which is always a good sign you’ve found a local gem. While we’d love to say breakfast is impossible to mess up, experience has taught us otherwise. Thankfully, Louie’s is proof that there’s also a right way to do it—and they’ve got it down.
A special shoutout to our server (whose name, regrettably, we didn’t catch). He mentioned he’d been working there for a couple of years, and his warmth and attentiveness put the “H” in Hospitality. If we ever find ourselves in the area again, Louie’s will be our first stop for breakfast—no question about it.

I had a very disappointing experience here. I was dining alone and ordered about $10 worth of food. When the bill came, an automatic gratuity had been added even though it was only me, and it was not communicated to me beforehand.
My understanding is that automatic gratuity is typically for larger parties and, either way, it should be clearly disclosed to the guest before charging it. I felt singled out and disrespected, and the situation left me feeling offended. I will not be returning. I’ve heard the rumors that black people don’t tip. I believe this was racially motivated and prejudice. BTW. I tipped more than what they took automatically. That was very dumb of them to take from a customer like that

The food and service was good. The only thing that I did not like was the yellow grits. They were thick and gritty. They were not smooth.

Louie’s Cafe is located adjacent to the LSU campus and provides that 50’s diner vibe. It’s a mainstay for breakfast. The menu is replete with egg and meat options, along with those desirable short-stack choices! This really is a gotta try type of place. If you enjoy that diner atmosphere with the vinyl stools at the counter, old fashioned metal legged tables, and good ‘ole greasy home-style cooking….then you won’t be disappointed.

Louie’s Café has been a cherished tradition for me over the years, and it continues to impress with every visit. This time, I indulged in their brunch special—Eggs Breaux Bridge. This dish features a savory grits cake topped with andouille sausage, crawfish, and shrimp, all smothered in a rich shrimp and corn cream sauce. The combination was nothing short of delicious.([[225]][1])
My companions also savored their meals, with standout choices like the Eggs Louisianne—poached eggs on English muffins with shrimp, crawfish, and onions, finished with a spicy, buttery herb cream sauce. The flavors were bold and satisfying.([[225]][1])
The service was attentive and friendly, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. I also appreciated the newer location on Lake Street, which offers more seating and convenient parking, enhancing the overall experience.
Whether you’re a longtime patron or a first-time visitor, Louie’s Café remains a must-visit spot in Baton Rouge. It consistently delivers quality food, great service, and a nostalgic atmosphere that keeps me coming back.

Food is back to size and quality of the past. It costs more now but definitely worth the money. Had the number 1 breakfast special, with super hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, bacon, english muffin, and a side order of grits. Every bite was exceptional. Unfortunately, they only have normal business hours in this era. Service was stellar, staff interaction is at a higher level than any other places in the area. Big thumbs up to Louies.
