We had dinner there on New Year’s Eve and the experience was excellent. The food was very good and high quality. It was a set menu. We even asked for dessert to go and it was perfect. The waiters were very attentive, polite, and friendly. The place is cozy and beautiful.

Sjöbaren has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Gothenburg, and a must-visit on every trip. While I used to frequent their Haga outlet, I had the chance to try the Lorensberg location this time—and it did not disappoint.
From the warm reception to the attentive service, everything about the experience was top-notch. One small but delightful touch I always look forward to is their complimentary bread with butter—simple, fresh, and delicious.
Of course, the highlight for me is always Sjöbaren’s fish au gratin. It’s not only visually appealing but also packed with incredible flavor—easily one of the best I’ve had.
If you’re a seafood lover visiting Gothenburg, I highly recommend Sjöbaren. It continues to live up to its reputation and keeps me coming back for more.

My group very much wanted to try out this restaurant. With my “finned fish” allergy I was a little worried about eating at top rated fish restaurant, but they went above and beyond to make an amazing meal. Had the sea food three course dinner and my colleagues had the cod. Truly wonderful service and exceptional dinner. This was by far the best dinner we had all week in Gothenburg.
The langoustines au gratin were super. The soup was the best I’ve ever had, which they made special without the fish for me. I had to get help eating the large amount of shrimp that came with the steamed mussels, langoustines and oyster. The mussels with white sauce were also really great. Everything was super.

I love the vibe there, cozy/casual/relaxing. The staffs are super nice, they introduced the foods very well. The cod fish was fresh (catch of the day), the oysters were tasty, the fish soup surprised me a lot with rich flavors. I definitely will come back again!

Nice ambience, good service. All three dishes that we ordered (sashimi, shrimp and soup) were a bit salty for us therefore 4 stars. Nothing that you can’t eat but we could notice it. Despite of that it was delicious.

Went here twice in two days just by coincidence for personal and business dinners. Good for both small and larger groups. Seating is a bit tight, but seafood here is fantastic. Never had such perfectly cooked fish in a fish soup full of delicious delights. Bar seating up top is less lit but overlooks the crowd down below, good if you want a more private dinner with people-watching opportunities. Service is also really good here, attentive and knowledgeable staff.

Pretty settings. Disappointing food. Taste was okay but portions small, left us hungry despite having a starter and main. Also encountered the tiniest mussels I’ve ever had. I think I expended more energy pulling open the shells and scraping out the stingy, stringy hinge of meat than I gained from eating the whole dish.
