The service was good. We made a reservation in advance, so our table was ready upon our arrival. I arrived before my date, but was still permitted to sit at the table. The server was very courteous and knowledgeable about the menu, and able to make recommendations based on some preferences that I shared.
The food is well made and tasty. You need to be aware that even for a tapas place, the portions are extremely small. For instance, we ordered a 34$ pork rib and it included exactly two ribs. It was tasty, but comical. The fungi and potato dish was nice. The cold shawarma was good, but we could have done without the cracker crumble on top, and thought a few crustinis would have suited the plate better. The cheesecake dessert was underwhelming. It was a no bake smear with a few melon balls and dried bits. Overall, most dishes were tasty, but the cryptic descriptions are a risk. Definitely take a look around before ordering or be prepared to order a lot and spend some cash. It’s ok to treat yourself!
Drink options were abundant. We enjoyed a few different cocktails and each one was great. We especially liked the smokey maple bourbon one, which included a little weiner as a garnish, which, ironically, was more filling than some of the plate we ordered
The food was delicious, and it’s always exciting that the menu changes monthly — you can really feel the creativity and skill from the chef with each iteration. I also have to highlight their non-alcoholic options, which are honestly some of the best I’ve come across in the city.
Highly recommend for a cozy, memorable night out.
The food is super fun, if you have an adventurous palette. I’m not sure what can be recommended because they emphasize their seasonal and experimental change in venue. You might get completely different dishes than I did, but whatever you get, it’ll be great.
– Yuzu margo ($19.00)
– “Peaches ‘n’ cream” – 112 ($18.00)
– Herbaceous n soft vermouth n soda ($11.00) – ratios were off. Drink was overly bitter
– All inclusive @ night ($10.00)
– Hiramasa Hanoi crudo ($23.00) – nice kick
– Shawarma carpaccio everything on it ($23.00)
– Whole laksa love ($20.00) – tasty jackfruit
– Falafel-fried nasu ($18.00)
– “Like a pizza…but harder to eat” ($22.00) – a fancy version of a pizza pop
– Stay gold, ponyboy ($32.00) – average
– The pig & the pea ($34.00)
Some interesting Asian inspired flavours but portions were incredibly tiny. Eat beforehand.
To start, the crudo was overpowered by a mountain of gigantic herbs which weren’t dried properly so it diluted the entire dish. The herbs seemed to be the star of the dish and the hamachi and lobster was an afterthought. Needed editing and refinement. (common theme throughout). This should have been called a salad, not a crudo. Ratio was way off.
The falafel fried eggplant. Again, a gigantic pile of herbs with unseasoned plain yogurt. Nothing was really jiving.
The scallion pancakes was probably the best dish for me. Squash was fresh and tasty, but yet AGAIN with the herbs… I don’t understand. Also, the yuzu kosho leaned towards the sweeter side which overpowered the dish.
Lastly, the halibut. Yeah, again, nothing jived. You had a grainy sauce that was bitter and curry like. Then a viet inspired fish meatball. Also, mushy fried green tomatoes that were unseasoned, on a bed of limp herbs and greens used throughout all 3 dishes we ate.
The thought process seemed like ya’ll wanted to incorporate a Vietnamese twist and decided to throw in a bunch of stuff that just didn’t work. It’s like one person worked on the protein, one person worked on the sauce and one person worked in garnish and ya’ll just threw it together and hope it worked.
Overall, everything needs editing and refinement. Also, the dishes were uninspiring.
I will say, the overall space and ambiance reminds me of a Montreal restaurant, which we loved. But the food is nowhere near that caliber.
Skip and head to Wynona down the street.
Never knew I needed a roof beer vinaigrette but here we are. Will be back.
We ordered one of everything and kept reordering our favourites. The best part was declaring every new dish the “new favourite” because everything was genuinely that good.
The cocktails were just as impressive, super creative and so well made. You can tell they put as much thought into the drinks as the food.
Service was amazing from start to finish. Everyone was warm, attentive and genuinely enthusiastic without ever feeling over the top.
Our friend just moved to the neighbourhood, so we’re already planning our next visit. It has been on our list forever and it absolutely lived up to the hype. One of the most memorable dinners we’ve had in a long time.
