Wow this place is busy for lunch, but I now know why. Super delicious sandwich, I ordered the Pastrami sandwich w/no tomatoes on sourdough. I highly recommend this sandwich, I really do like the vibes of this place. Makes you feel like you’re apart of the neighborhood, everyone saying hi and talking to each other. I got to look at all the other food going out as I waited, everything looks so good. I’m definitely coming back, thank you guys.

New world deli, old school vibe!
This place!! Wowza!!! A must try and then go back and back and back again. My first time at this wonderful establishment and it lived up to my expectations.

The layout reminded me of a deli in my hometown back east. Tall ceilings, big counter, very laid back ambiance and cool art hanging on the walls, jazz music playing softly.

What I appreciated the most was the menu. It’s listed by popularity which made my decision very easy to go with the corned beef Rueben. The bread was toasted to perfection and it didn’t get soggy from too much sauerkraut or sauce. Sammie came with plenty of meat to complement the sauerkraut. Ordered a side or pasta salad which was on point. Topped off my order with an IPA, cause why not. I already recommended this place to two of my buddy’s who live in Austin. Will 100% go back any time I’m in Austin!

Tucked into Austin’s Hyde Park, New World Deli is a neighborhood spot that delivers comfort food with heart. This cozy deli punches way above its weight in flavor, friendliness, and quality.
It’s casual and unpretentious on the surface — but behind the counter, there’s serious attention to quality, balance, and flavor. It’s a place where classic comfort food gets just enough of a culinary upgrade to keep regulars coming back — and first-timers pleasantly surprised.
I chose four dishes you might like to try, that people I talked to said they like best. I have tried all but the Sloppy Joe.
Reuben Sandwich
A perfect balance of rich, tender corned beef, sharp sauerkraut, creamy Russian dressing, and perfectly grilled rye. The proportions are spot-on, avoiding the soggy, overloaded pitfall that plagues many versions of this deli classic. Easily one of the most frequently praised items on the menu — and with good reason. This is my “go-to” when I am there.
Buffalo Cauliflower
This vegetarian standout is crisp, spicy, and addictive. Lightly breaded and tossed in a tangy Buffalo sauce, it’s proof that bar-style apps can be elevated with thoughtful execution. Ideal as a shareable starter or a meatless main.
“New Jersey” Sloppy Joe
This double-decker rye sandwich layers house-roasted meats, Swiss cheese, creamy coleslaw, and Russian dressing for a rich, indulgent bite. It’s messy in the best way — nostalgic, but with cleaner, more deliberate flavors than you’d expect from something called a “Sloppy Joe.”
Philly Cheesesteak
One of the more underrated items on the menu. It features thinly sliced steak, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted provolone, all nestled in a soft hoagie roll. It’s satisfying and generous without being greasy — a difficult balance that many miss, but New World Deli nails it.
We also did a series on the Best Cheesesteaks in the area (not necessarily a Philly), but it deserves some love.
Beyond the food, the space is cozy and lived-in, with a rotating art wall and occasional live jazz adding a layer of charm. It’s the kind of place that welcomes everyone — families, perfecr for date night or for remote workers who need a lunchtime break.
New World Deli is a rare find — a low-key neighborhood spot that delivers high-level consistency, flavor, and service. It’s ideal for anyone looking for real deli fare with thoughtful preparation and a touch of Austin character. Whether you’re in the mood for a perfectly composed Reuben or a plate of surprisingly excellent cauliflower, this deli doesn’t just satisfy — it impresses! #MattGoodEats

Love this place! Been coming here for years and it remains one of my favorite places for a hot sub. Also has some of the best fries (both regular and sweet potato) that I’ve had in Austin. Portions are huge and prices are fair.

We used to eat here regularly about 20 years ago. We met a group of friends who had never been. The food was good, we all got sandwiches ranging from eggplant to Reuben to a burger.

The eggplant was delicious but we did not care for the bread.

The burger had a good flavor, but the bun somewhat overpowered it.

As always, they have great carrot cake and cheesecake.

Friendly neighborhood cafe with live music and a thriving commitment around it. They have a deli menu and varied dessert case. I enjoyed the chocolate cake and appreciated the friendly staff.
There is free parking in the courtyard between buildings and on surrounding streets.

Great place, relaxed vibe and good food. We like this place a lot.
Just wish they would put out a bottle of hand sanitizer or something. It’a mostly finger food and the bathroom is teeny tiny and outside of the building, so washing your hands is not convenient, especially when with a group.

Amazing place I wish I had discovered long ago. Family owned and operated for 30 years – wow and they all work there and they are cool. Prices are no higher than anywhere else. Good value and great reuben! Oh and they have Maine Root on tap!

My granddaughter, a soup aficionado among many other talents, had a craving for soup today. Guided by Google, I stumbled upon this hidden gem. I ordered the deluxe chicken soup, which arrived hot and bursting with flavor. It was topped with smashed avocado and an assortment of fresh vegetables. My son chose the Cuban soup, and he thoroughly enjoyed it. My granddaughter, however, savored the tomato basil soup. It was simply delicious that we couldn’t resist dipping our freshly fried fries into it. It was an absolute treat! The cozy atmosphere and live music added to the ambiance as we enjoyed our lunch.
