The soup dumplings were juicy and delicious, the entrées were flavorful with generous portions, and everything came out hot and fast. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the whole meal feel welcoming and comfortable.
Whether you’re stopping by for a casual dinner or celebrating something special, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend Ala Shanghai for anyone craving top-quality, authentic Chinese food in the area!
It’s a bit dimmer inside. And they played jazz music.
Quiet dining experience with excellent service from all the staff!
Good authentic food!
Stir fry pea shoots with garlic was yummy but some of the pea shoots are old and chewy.
Pan fried pork buns are juicy and delicious.
Story fry rice cake with some sort of greens. The texture of the rice cakes were too mushy.
Rice wine marinated chicken as appetizer was pretty good. But light on the flavor.
Overall, it’s a B +on the food. Service was A!
Eta: I have been back a few more times and it is great every time. Absolutely consistent! Adding more pics of more delicious food.
We were seated quickly, and tea and water were brought out right away. The waiter answered our questions easily and we were surprised by how fast the food came out.
All of it was delicious! The egg drop soup was some of the best I have had. I love that all of their chicken dishes use white meat; the General Tso came with the perfect amount of spice, too. We also shared the Beef Chow Fun. It was good, but I am excited to try other entrees next time.
We didn’t feel rushed at all. Despite the quick arrival of the food, there was no push for us to go. It was nice to enjoy our lunch and even chat with one of the nice young men who works there.
I can’t wait for another visit – highly recommend.
Let’s start with the positives: the food at Ala Shanghai is expertly prepared and showcases authentic flavors. Each dish we ordered, from the dim sum to the main courses, was carefully crafted and delicious. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, providing recommendations and ensuring our dining experience was comfortable.
However, the ambiance left much to be desired. The restaurant was bustling and incredibly loud, making it nearly impossible to hold a conversation at our table. This detracted significantly from what could have been a more relaxed evening.
One dish that particularly disappointed was the drunken chicken. It arrived bland, and frankly unappetizing in appearance. Given the otherwise high standard of the meal, this was a noticeable letdown.
In summary, Ala Shanghai impresses with its culinary prowess and attentive service, but falls short in creating a conducive dining atmosphere and maintaining consistency across all dishes. If you’re willing to overlook these shortcomings, the restaurant offers a worthwhile culinary journey into authentic Chinese cuisine.
The food was delicious. Shrimp Dumplings were exquisite. Hot and Sour soup was savory and everything you want in a soup. The menu is extensive with Dim Sum served all day!
We can’t wait to return. It is an hour and 45 minutes from home, but worth the trip.
Let me tell you, if you’re looking for truly delicious and authentic Chinese food in the Albany area, look no further than Ala Shanghai in Latham. This has easily become my absolute favorite spot.
From the moment you walk in, you can tell they take pride in their food and service. The staff is always so welcoming and attentive, making every dining experience a pleasant one.
And the food? Oh my goodness, the food! It’s consistently outstanding. We have our go-to favorites, of course. The General Tso’s Shrimp is a must-try – perfectly crispy shrimp coated in that classic, flavorful sauce. And the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce is just divine, so tender and packed with that savory, slightly spicy garlic goodness.
But we’ve also ventured beyond our staples and been equally impressed. The Fish in Chili Sauce is a fantastic choice if you like a bit of heat and incredibly flavorful fish. And the Chicken in Black Bean Sauce is another winner, rich and savory with perfectly cooked chicken.
Honestly, everything we’ve tried at Ala Shanghai has been top-notch. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients and the care they put into each dish. If you’re craving authentic and delicious Chinese food with excellent service, do yourself a favor and check out Ala Shanghai. You won’t be disappointed!
