Had a late breakfast. Breakfast is served all day. Had a large breakfast flour taco customized with bacon potatoes eggs and beans. The taco came with red and green salsa. The green salsa was spicy but delicious. Staff was helpful and friendly. I would definitely be returning when I’m in the area again.

The food here is NOT fresh or tasty….. To begin with, the waitress brought me the wrong food. When I showed her that the menu item was incorrect, she said, “this is the way we serve it…..if you want, I can bring you what the menu says on it.” LOLOL, yeah, I would like “what the menu says on it!” The enchilada sauce was lukewarm and very gelatinous. The fajitas were overcooked and definitely NOT fresh. The beans are definitely canned and very watered down. The rice tasted okay but it was very clumpy and mushy. I’m not sure how they have over 4+ rating on here but I will NOT be returning….

Hubby and I came here for brunch. I ordered the one with the pork chops. I just wished that the pork chops were seasoned well. It was just not seasoned enough, as it tasted underwhelming. My husband though seemed to enjoy his order, so that’s good. Will I come back? Yes. I love the ambiance and there is a few parking spaces. If the cafe is not full you’ll be able to find parking right outside, otherwise you would have to park a little further; good thing parking is free Service was good.

I was expecting a bit more from such an iconic spot, especially since it was my first visit. That said, the service was excellent—friendly, attentive waitress and great staff all around. I stopped in for lunch and unfortunately my chips were slightly stale, and the carne guisada was closer to room temperature than hot. I may have ordered the wrong thing, though—my friends had enchiladas and they all said theirs were great. One standout for me was the flour tortillas: easily top 5 in the RGV, and that’s saying something. I’d definitely like to come back and give this place another shot, for breakfast.

The food was excellent. I ordered the enchiladas, And my husband had the carne guisada. The service was great. We enjoyed the meal and atmosphere. I asked for a spicier salsa, and the salsa verde they brought out was perfect.

My dish did not look like steak ranchero it looked like guisado and the meat was tough. They never came back to refill my water cup. My son’s dish was missing side item but since waiter never came back pos, how do think we felt about the place. We were not impressed with the cafe.

Total Spent: About $25 to $30 per family.
This morning we ventured off to find a place to have breakfast with the family. We had our sights sent on El Rancho Grande Mexican Restaurant and Cantina but the wait was 45 to 1hr and we had some very hungry people. We headed out to Junction Cafe.
Because we where a large party we got sat in their back area. It took about 10 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us and get our drink orders. Unfortunately another 15 minutes to actually get our drink order to the table. It was at this time the waitress took our food order. We all ordered basic dishes. Nothing to outrageous. I think the most complicated dish was chilaquiles con pollo. Unfortunately we did not all get our dishes at the same time. We got them in waves and my son drew the short end of the stick and was served at the very end after most of us finished our meals. His meal was 2 potato egg tacos with a side of beans. Super simple to make and it took the longest to get to the table.
Our dishes where somewhat well served for the money. My biscuits and gravy with sausage where good. Presentation was good. My wife had the migas locas which is migas with chrizo. She said it was ok. My brother in law had The Trucker Plate. To much bell pepper, not enough meat.
My niece had the menudo. She really liked it. Big chunks. Tasty. My sister in law had the Barbacoa Plate. She didn’t think it was good. Too much fat. Not enough for two tacos. It does make a good lite breakfest however. My nephew had chilaquiles con pollo. The runny sause made his tortillas too soft when he made tacos. However the cheese and pollo where good.
The major down fall of this experience was the long wait for our meals. It could have been that they where under staffed or the fact that there was too many people… however why would it take almost 20 minutes to serve 2 potato and egg tacos?
Our waitress was in a great mood; smiled. She did her best under the circumstances.
