Social Profile:

The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees. Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring North Carolina and Tennessee. Macado’s just recently opened its newest location in Bluefield, Virginia. The already-lengthy menu has been changed and expanded over the years, and several events have grown in popularity, such as the Macado’s …

Wasn’t very busy on a Monday night. In town for a College tour for our son the following day, but our niece is a student at JMU, so we picked her up. Food was good, nothing amazing and lots, mean lots to choose from. Server was nice, but very slow and would disappear often. Cashing out we waited for over 15mins, then brought our check to the bartender. The atmosphere is very cool though. Little game area in the back. Cool statues and a big JMU Bulldog. Would like to check this place out on a Friday or Saturday night, sure its bumping.

Went without reservations with a group of 20. Graciously accommodated. Put tables together in back arcade area. (PERFECT for families, but bring those quarters) One server worked the group and kept cool, even refilled drinks without being asked. Food came out warm not piping hot, but was to be expected given the large order.

Honestly, I probably won’t be coming back here. Very cold in the building. Food took over 1 hour to get to us with nobody else in the building. Food came out to us very cold, not even a bit warm. Food was average at best. Service was good and helpful and the music was cool.

The atmosphere is just as described. It’s fun and definitely meant for a college town. I had never been to this location before and had to try it out. Didn’t even know there was another outside of Farmville.
Our waitress was on top of everything. Had 3 in our party. Loved the fried chicken on artisan bun and macaroni and cheese. The chicken parmesan wrap was a hit with the fresh fruit cup. Chicken wings with garlic parmesan was way too salty, that covered up everything else. Another let down and shock was no refills on regular coffee, added charge. Seriously! I don’t know about refills on anything ask, wouldn’t surprise me.

The people who work here are amazing and provide the absolute best service to their customers. It does not take 2 hours to get food. People may forget that the service staff are just people too, and they are doing their best to provide the best service. And let me tell you their best exceeds expectations. I would like to say I saw what happened with the “male bartender” and you: @alexdavidson, blatantly disrespected the female bartender that was there, and that’s why you were asked to leave. Please learn some manners. #itsjustpickles

Great sports themed restaurant and bar. Excellent menu selection. I had the Tippecanoe club sandwich and my wife had a couple of tasty appetizers. Skyler was a top notch waitress!

We waited at the host stand for several minutes and were never greeted. I even called their phone in an attempt to get an employee to come to the front of the house, but it went to voicemail. I went to the bar hoping to find an employee who could seat us, but I saw absolutely nobody.
I’ve eaten at Macao’s in the past and although the food is always ok, I’ve waited an hour to get a cold sandwich. The restaurant is never busy, but I’ve always waited at least an hour to get my food.
On this occasion, however, I didn’t even get the opportunity to wait for food, as we eventually left without ever being acknowledged.

Sunday visit at noon. There must not be adults in the restaurant.

The hostess (long hair and glasses, could not stay at her station). As soon as she sat someone, she immediately went to the kitchen. Someone would walk in and they’d have to wait until she “checked” the front desk. I would have fired her for not even being able to sit people.

The waitress and others we saw, constantly disappeared to the kitchen which it seemed like all staff’s favorite place to hide.

Since no one checked on us after serving food, I got up to walk around so I could find someone, anyone, in the restaurant. Guess what? Not a single server was walking around. Finally someone appeared, not our waitress, and I told her we were ready to pay and pay now.

It took her to go back in the kitchen to retrieve our waitress.

Unless the servers are cooking the food, they should be serving.

What a shame to the kitchen staff because the food is amazing!!!!!

Management needs to have a talk with its servers. To the servers, respect your amazing kitchen staff. There’s only so far their incredible work will compensate for lack of doing your job.
