Luv to Travel
We haven’t been to Grandpa Tony’s in 15 years but we went there 42 years ago for high school dates. So we went out of nostalgia. We were promptly seated but it then took almost 30 minutes to have a waitress come to our table. Once we got our food it was very good but we will not likely return. We want to give them the benefit of the doubt to say they were short staffed but there were 4 servers in our area, we just felt ignored. Once the waitress came to our table she was very pleasant though.

Emily Scott made our experience at Grandpa Tony’s unforgettable. From the moment we were seated, she greeted us with the warmest smile and such genuine kindness that it instantly set the tone for the entire meal. She was incredibly attentive without being overbearing, always checking in at the perfect moments and making sure everyone at the table had exactly what they needed.
Emily knew the menu inside and out and gave excellent recommendations that turned out to be spot-on. Our food came out exactly as ordered, hot, fresh, and perfectly timed, which clearly reflected how on top of things she was. Drinks were never empty, and she noticed the little details—like refills, napkins, or condiments—before we even had to ask.
What really stood out was her positive attitude and professionalism. Even when the restaurant was busy, she remained calm, friendly, and efficient, making us feel like we were her top priority. It’s rare to come across a server who truly cares about your experience, and Emily absolutely does.
Because of her outstanding service, our visit to Grandpa Tony’s felt welcoming, relaxed, and enjoyable from start to finish. She is a huge asset to the restaurant, and we will definitely be asking for her again on our next visit. If you’re dining at Grandpa Tony’s, do yourself a favor and hope Emily Scott is your server—you won’t be disappointed!

I personally did not like the food but I think it is a regional issue. I live in Texas. We don’t put sugar in our sauce and this was very sweet. My friend had the hot beef sandwich and it was swimming in gravy. The waitress was very nice and attentive. The prices were reasonable.

The prices here are definitely reasonable for the quality and amount of food that you get. We ate here twice among our several stays in Bay city the past 4 weeks.

I stopped here on my way to eat somewhere else. Something about the outside screamed good food and I was not disappointed. Lasagna was top notch, salad tasted like Olive Garden. Not sure how you want to view that comment but I like OG. Service was extremely fast. Would totally go again. Price was great $12 bucks and I was stuffed!

I have frequented Grandpa Tony’s for over 30 years being a BCC grad and going there after events and for special occasions. They are known for their steak sandwiches and desserts. Tonight I shared a steak sandwich supreme (grilled with sauce on the side) and baked spaghetti. The steak sandwich was very good but noticeably smaller then in the past. The baked spaghetti was not layered with light sauce and very little meat. I would not get it again. Service is good. Prices are on the higher side. Table and booth seating. Lot and street parking. I have and will return but they took a step back in the review this time.
12/24/23 I ordered take out sirloin tips and pasta along with a steak sandwich and fries for take out on a busy Christmas Eve. The sirloin tips were good but they jammed my side salad in a soup cup and didn’t add my bread basket (on the menu) to my take out. I called and they said they would get one ready for me. I went back and got two slices of bread. I asked “where’s the rest of the basket with the garlic sticks and such?” He said take out only comes with bread. No apology for me having to return for my two small slices of bread. Steak sandwich was average. Thanks for being open on Christmas Eve but I won’t be back anytime soon. It’s a shame because I’ve come for years.

This place should be shut down for evaluation. It is DIRTY. The floors and booths are covered in dirt and grime. We ordered steak medium, it was as well done. Extremely well done. No pink in the middle. The waitress didn’t seem to think this was a problem. Ordered shrimp, also cooked beyond belief. Your chef overcooks everything apparently. I have a lot of fond memories here as a kid, apparently the new generation just settles for having a dirty restaurant and overcooked food. I don’t like to leave negative reviews, but you need to hear this so you can make improvements. Raise the bar on your cleanliness. I can’t imagine what the kitchen looks like if you allow the front to be this bad. You lost a family of customers. I heard others echoing the same.

Steak sandwich was so tough. It was not edible. I got iron rings. They were so overcooked that it was gross. I haven’t ate there in years very disappointed, not again. The only thing that was edible was cauliflower bites. Everything else I threw away.

Tony’s restaurant is not only the best at what they do, food and beverages are all excellent. Also keep in mind that since 1962 they’ve been an important employer for thousands.

Highly disappointed this place use to be top notch back in the day, however the service was so slow today and the food came out cold and wasn’t even worth the wait we had 8 people and paid $153.00 very pricey not to mention they charged a 4% service fee because I used my debit card instead of cash HORRIBLE I just spent $153.00 @ your restaurant that’s not enough to cover the processing fee? Awful awful awful Will NOT be back! HIGHLY DISSATISFIED!
