This is a lovely little restaurant which we always visit a few times per year.
It has a really good quality coffee on offer.
The weekend we attended it was the Newcastle food weekend, so we tried the special menu that was created for this weekend.
The quality of the food was good, as usual, with great welcoming staff who always offer assistance.

I always tell people; you can’t go to Newcastle and not have a meal at Uno’s – this place is fantastic. Revisiting this week after a couple of years, I stand by that comment.

Unassuming semi-basement premises at the foot of the Tyne Bridge, this isn’t a big restaurant in terms of size, but it certainly punches above it’s weight when it comes to the range and quality of its food.

Visited most recently on a Tuesday evening, seated without a reservation, which was good – service was quick and efficient. This place always seems to be popular though, so you’d do well to book if you’ve a larger party.

The menu here has a wide range of pizza, pasta and some specials – I usually always have the calzone, which you can have served with a gravy boat full of bolognaise sauce, Love it.

This time though, I fancied a change and so I opted for the ‘Dirty Parmo’ a variation of the local delicacy – this is a chicken schnitzel, covered in pulled pork, cheese and a peppercorn sauce. Wow, really good. Served with a bowl of chips.

I wasn’t going to have a starter, but I was persuaded, so I had the pâté, which has an excellent bread to pâté ratio – rare. Special mention also for the black pudding stack.

The beer was Moretti, as you’d expect. Moretti for the people.

I did not have a pudding, for I was full. I remember the profiteroles were good though.

Highly recommended for a visit. A firm two paws up – a local legend, as they say.

Convenient for the Red House pub, opposite, for post-dinner drinks.

I ordered the Caprese salad, the chicken Kiev with extra peppercorn sauce and fries, while my husband had the lasagne. The Caprese salad was decent, though it could have been seasoned a little better. The chicken Kiev, however, was fantastic – full of flavour, cooked well, and the extra peppercorn sauce made it even better. I really enjoyed it.

My husband wasn’t impressed with the lasagne. He felt like it had been reheated in the microwave rather than freshly made, and it lacked the bubbling cheese and freshness you’d expect.

Overall, a mixed experience, but I’d definitely have the chicken Kiev again.

Authentic traditional Italian restaurant.
Warm friendly atmosphere. Great service. Delicious food. Garlic mushrooms, Fantastic batter on the calamari. Best Carbonara I’ve ever had. Really generous portions. Next time we are in Newcastle – it’s a must.
Highly recommended.

Great experience at unos on the quayside! Given the location prices were moderate and the portion sizes were spot on. Staff couldn’t have been friendlier in allowing us time for our friend to arrive and in order to decide what we wanted despite it being a match night. Thoroughly enjoyed the cannelloni and we took advantage of the early evening two course offer! Can’t go wrong with unos

Overall, good value restaurant with friendly service. Food was mixed.

Food – mussels, arancini and breads to start. Mussels were the best with a rich sauce nicely seasoned. Arancini was good (3 different flavours) however 2 of them were a little dry.

Surf and turf was nicely cooked, and the meat was good quality. Pizza was ok – base was a little doughy for me and the balsamic glaze overpowered all other flavours in the pizza. Kids carbonara was good, margarita pizza was once again a bit doughy. Side of fries were not worth it, undercooked and floppy.
All dishes presented well.

Service – service was friendly and drinks were delivered quickly. Despite being busy, there was not a long wait for food. Did forget a side salad and also a steak knife, but minor points.

Atmosphere – nice surroundings and decor. Bustling restaurant but not so noisy you could hold a conversation.

In conclusion, nice restaurant, good price point, but have had better Italian meals.

This place was an absolute gem of find!

We had a wonderful warm welcome despite not booking in advance. The menu was fantastic and had lots of options, and it was very reasonably priced! Our server was super helpful in explaining options and giving us space to order.

When the food arrived (promptly!) it was delicious, the portions were perfect and everything tasted fresh and flavourful. For dessert we had homemade tiramisu and it was frankly the best I’ve had in years.

Highly recommend

I have passed this restaurant so many times and only went there today. It’s very nicely furnished and the atmosphere is great. It gets so busy around 6-7 pm on weekends but we still managed to find a seat as it is a very big restaurant. The pastas are great. Very tasty and saucy. The price is great for such a big portion. Once the restaurant gets too busy, the service becomes slow. I recommend avoiding the rush hour, so you might have a better experience. Because the whole place is underground, the lighting was not great. Also, when it gets overcrowded, you have to yell for the other person to hear you. Overall, ai still like dining here.

Without doubt the best spaghetti carbonara I have ever eaten, and I have eaten a lot!!

Amazing find. A beautiful reasonably priced bottle of red and the most amazingly tender yet crispy black pudding. Paired with belly pork and peppercorn sauce.
Extremely highly recommended, so much so we are coming back next time we are in Newcastle.

Had the early dinner menu last night with Mr M before going to the Glasshouse. The food was delicious, had the sea bass with mussels . It was perfectly cooked, sea bass the skin lightly fried with a crisp crack, and the mussels were huger and freshly. Mr M had the chicken Milanese with spaghetti Napoli which was tasty and well balanced. Dessert was tiramisu- light and delicious and sticky toffee pudding which was also delicious and not too rich, topped with a juicy sweet large strawberry. The Shiraz was fruity and smooth. The staff/ service were attentive and not overbearing. The music was excellent, not too loud but loud enough to recognise the songs. Could have a conversation without having to shout. The ambiance and decor was lovely. Throughly enjoyed, would highly recommend
