Four stars are about right. The restaurant is dated, as is most of the places in the area. Staff was friendly. There are a few picnic tables around the side that are clean-ish.
We got the Chicken Katsu, the Smoke Meat w/onions, and a cheeseburger deluxe. The Katsu was amazing. Great taste and nice crunch. The Smoke Meat was smoked pork belly. Lots of smokey taste. I like pork belly, but some people might not enjoy the fat in pork belly.
The rice was average, and the mac-n-cheese was as good as most places. They forgot the “deluxe” part of the cheeseburger, so we needed to go back and have it fixed.
I don’t think I’d crave it again when we come back, but I wouldn’t turn it down if that’s where everyone wanted to go.

You will not be disappointed with this Gem if you’re looking for something quick to eat. Ordered the fish plate and I was pleasantly surprised, the breading was delicious, fish was not soggy, it was very tasty. The Mac salad was definitely impressive, homemade of you all me, and a generous portion of rice. My only gripe for the 1 start reduction is the price, it’s pushing a restaurant price point and I’m not sure it competes there, but it was tasty. I would order a whole extra side of the Mac salad. Great location, I will definitely return!

Local spot and I’m sure is like beloved becuase local grow up with it. For tourists it was unwelcoming and sketchy. Mac salad great. Decent food but also yikes, it’s taking a chance lol

The Chicken Katsu that I ordered was ok. The katsu had a thick layer of breading and the katsu sauce was a bit sweet. The service was quick and people at the check out were very nice. I recommend calling-in your order during the busy lunch and dinner hours.

Delicious! Read a previous review that it reminded him/her of Rainbow’s Drive In….maybe in the past, but now I’d compare Verna’s to Leeward Drive In. This place was amazing. Great food options. Tried the corn chowder with a sandwich (tuna or grilled cheese). Tuna had lettuce and chopped onions. Great chowder, very well seasoned, lots of corn. Wish had more potatoes and/or bacon. The gravys on our two plates were flavored differently, but both were delicious

Our goto for fast local food. Their specials posted on the board are a must see before you view their menu. Breakfast items are limited before 11am. Fast and friendly service. Highly recommend for folks looking to grab a quick bite with homecook feel.
