In Sanford for the holiday weekend and my sister in law asked if I’d tried the Big Dill Smash Burger at Sonic. Our Sonic in Georgia is not participating in this promotion to our disappointment. So, when she said the Sanford location was, we decided to stop on our way out of town to try it.
We got the double smash burger with tots and the Picklerita slushie.
Let me start with the slushie.
They were out of boboa but I opted for it without because I really wanted to try it. BEST SLUSHIE EVER!!! I love the flavor. It’s the perfect combination of lime and pickle flavors. Best slushie I’ve ever had, though my husband said he’s on the fence of whether he likes it or not because it’s so different.
Tots were good and fresh, but I didn’t get much pickle flavor from them until the last few at the bottom of the container. That said, they were cooked perfectly and I have zero complaints.
On to the burger…
I know I’m overusing the word “best,” but like I told my husband after the first bite… “This is the best burger I’ve had out in a long, long time.” When I want a fast food burger, this is exactly what I hope for but rarely ever get. The smash patties were crispy on the edges but juicy. The bun was soft and fresh. I didn’t realize it was a dill ranch sauce though. I genuinely thought it was just mayo and still, I’m not complaining. The lettuce, in my opinion, was unnecessary but added a nice texture and crunch. But the pickles… those to me, were the star. Perfectly dill, perfectly crisp. Overall, for me, this burger was a total package. It and the slushie were a solid 10/10 each. I realize this is from the perspective of someone who loves dill pickles and always asks for extra on my sandwich, but I think it’s worth a try even if you don’t love pickles like I do.
Service lacked a little at first. We went through the drive through, the attendant took our order and then interrupted midway through and asked us to wait a minute. We ended up waiting 10 minutes before someone else came over the speaker and asked to take our order. Not sure what was going on there in the store, but the second ordering experience was flawless.
All in all, it was a great experience and I hope Sonic keeps these items as a regular options on their menu.

We ordered food from here and it was not fresh at all. Also after paying for the food, One of the young workers (young lady) who brought us our food didn’t give me my correct change. She just walked back in the restaurant like it was nothing. So we had to tell one of the managers about what the young lady did and they apologized and gave us our correct change.

Great for that self indulgent treat. Staff are friendly and efficient. While the food isn’t the healthiest, if you just want to treat yourself to some tasty treats it’s the best. Especially the chili dog!!

The chicken sandwich I ordered was uncooked in the center. Thought it tasted weird, didn’t actually look at it till I was half way done. Never again.
So to update. I did file an official complaint well before the comment below. Less than helpful. Mild apology and offered to refund the cost of the meal. Didn’t change the fact that I had horrible food poisoning and threw up for the next few days. Thanks for nothing Sonic.

The staff that provided service was great. I asked for fresh Tots and received old stale tots mixed in with hot tots. I don’t normally complain, but it took like 10 minutes and my food was not completely fresh.

The new smash burgers are really special. Chicken fingers were hot and very tasty. The crispy chicken sandwich was just that, hot, crispy, and good. Service was very slow, they were very busy.

I am normally not one to leave a review, but the food was so horrendous that I feel the need to spare others. The food came out fast, but the bun of my burger was hard like it was a month old and all of the toppings on my burger were already soggy like they had been sitting out for a week. I ordered onion rings and the outside of them were crispy, but the inside was mushy and soggy like they weren’t cooked long enough. My son’s wacky pack came out (fries only) and when they brought the rest of his wacky pack, it was a hamburger instead of the cheeseburger we had ordered. The tea also had a nasty taste and aftertaste! Seems like this place could use better management and cooks that care a little more about what they are sending out of the kitchen.

By far worst Sonic I’ve been to! The customer service was horrible and very rude. My fries were old, forgot parts of our order, my kids chicken tenders were old and luke warm… literally the only thing good were the drinks and they gave us the wrong drinks too we ordered cherry limeade and got strawberry limeade… We will not be back to this Sonic location again.

I went to Sonic today with my family for some lunch. I ordered using the app thinking that it would expedite the process. After checking in the screen at the stall said my food was being made. Then a message came up saying LaNajeh was on the way woth our food. Out came our drinks but no food. We told her we ordered food too and she went back into the kitchen to look for it. 10 mins later nothing. We then pressed the button again and asked where our food was…..they never made it. This is legitimately the third time in a row this has happened at this particular location. Either get better with the app or get some better employees. Probably won’t be back to the sanford Sonic any time soon
