I had the Hot Ham and Cheese with fries, and it hit the spot. The fries are fresh-cut and really good, a step above your typical drive-in sides.
In the middle of a big city, this place still has that small-town charm. Well worth the stop if you’re craving a quick, tasty meal with a nostalgic vibe.
Ordered: Total – $26 dollars
Pastrami burger combo – fries and a drink.
Cheeseburger lunch special fries and a drink.
Ordered small onion rings – well done – extra crispy.
Slushie with ice cream.
They have coke products
They have a condiment tray with self serve homemade fry sauce, homemade ranch, and ketchup, mustard etc.
Everything was made to order, this is an oldschool diner place that has been around for 40+
Years.
This place has been around for 40 + years and its basically teenagers cooking, taking orders etc.
Inside the place the booths were not clean; the condiment area was not clean either. No bathrooms inside you have to go outside.
You can order via phone, order through their window, car hop service, or just inside. Staff was super friendly I explained to them it was my first time going and really excited.
The burgers were good, the french fries werent cooked all the way, my onion rings even though i asked for them to be well done – they were not and were beyond oily. I only had about 6 small rings in my bag and were greasy. To be honest I did not eat them
The fry sauce is more mayo than anything, so i had to add more ketchup on my own end. The ranch was good.
My slushie that I ordered with ice cream, the girl forgot to add the ice cream. I only noticed when I got in my car.
This is a family friendly restaurant and they do not sell liquor etc.
This place would have received a 5 – but the cleanliness, the super oily onion rings, my slushy missing the ice cream they received a 3.
We opted to pick up dinner tonight because it’s been a bear of a day. I pulled in with my son and there were only two other customers there. When I unrolled my window to order, I noticed a couple of flies entered my van. After we ordered, a young blonde man came out of the building carrying a bag of trash. There wasn’t room in the trash can, so he threw it on the ground near the can, still wearing his food handling gloves, and walked back inside.
When our food finally came out, the shake was melting all over the cup. I mentioned it as the girl was handing me the cup and she just looked at me. I grabbed an extra napkin from my center console to clean it up and she handed me the bag of burgers, saying, “there’s more napkins in there” – cool, but my hands are covered in chocolate and y’all stapled the bag shut. If I get to those napkins, the bag will be covered in chocolate. She offered to bring another cup after I paid. I fumbled with my credit card (which, you guessed it, is now covered in chocolate) and she stared at me while saying, “It’s going to ask you for a tip.” …for this?!? Maybe help me clean up the mess you just gave me first? Maybe then I might feel inclined? I’m usually a big tipper bc I have worked a lot of food service jobs. Not today.
She went back in and brought out a cup the exact same size – which solves the sticky cup problem, but doesn’t stop the shake from continuing to melt down the sides all over my car and clothing. She didn’t bring a cloth or any napkins. I was stuck trying to take the cup from her with a napkin (the one I provided) in my hand covered in chocolate. I said that I needed a moment bc I didn’t have anywhere to put it and she just stared at me. Cool. Got it. I said, “I guess I’ll try to save some of the car clean up and sacrifice my clothes. Geez.” And she was just like, “Yeah, sorry” as I had to shove the sticky napkin in my jacket pocket! Yikes.
This whole time the car window was down so there are even more flies in my car now.
I got home, handed off the extremely empty shake to my daughter, grabbed damp paper towels and tried to get the chocolate out of my center console. It took long enough that making dinner would have been cheaper and faster. My food was cold by the time I was able to sit down to eat. I have attached a photo of the overflowing garbage and my burnt, cold cheeseburger – clearly a victim of shrinkflation.
Woody’s used to be the pride of the neighborhood. We have brought friends there from out of town dozens of times. Now I would be ashamed to do that.
The fries are very similar to Five Guys – dense, fresh cut potatoes, not very crispy. Not my favorite type of fry but I know some people like them. We got a large cheese fry and shared. It was plenty for 2 people.
I would rate the food a 4/5 – however I’m knocking 1 star off because frankly the restaurant was pretty dirty and kinda gross.
The staff (all teenage kids it seemed) were all very nice.
Most importantly – the food is delicious! The fries were crispy and flavorful, the shakes were chuck full of cookie dough, brownie bits, and everything else, and the burgers were so tasty. The kids meal even came with an Airhead.
We happened to show up on the day that Woody himself was retiring after 35 years since he started the place. Super nice guy.
It was very filling, and the hamburger meat was well seasoned. They offer free ketchup, ranch, and fry sauce for dipping. These free sauces earn 5 stars alone.
The employee who rang up my meal was very friendly and the establishment was clean. Thank you for the nummy dinner!
