Very authentic Sichuan and Hunan food. The flavors are bold and well-balanced — spicy, numbing, and aromatic in the right way. Not overly Americanized. Will definitely come back.

It is very big authentic Chinese restaurant! They offer real spicy Chinese foods that many Asian food lovers look for such as spicy dry pots!! Also they have international chinese food options too. The portion is good and wide range of variety authentic Chinese foods with really amazing taste. I find that service is friendly and space is spacious with nice chinese interior! I would say this is my favorite Chinese restaurant now in jersey city and Hoboken.

Went here on an odd week day for lunch with a friend. We ordered a chicken appetizer and noodles. Both were disastrous. Stale stringy chicken and greasy thick noodles. Barely ate anything. On top of it, service was extremely bad, had to ask for water 3 times even when there were barely 3 tables seated in the whole place. The front desk lady can use a lesson or two in hospitality. She kept yelling at us to “Wait” angrily or ignored us whenever we asked for water. And after all this, the waitress had the audacity to come and ask for tip explicitly after I got up to leave with a table full of leftovers. I’ve not had such a bad experience at dining at any place recently. Will never go again.

First time here, our party of 6 got a bunch of stuff and everything was GREAT but the sauted lamb was EXCELLENT. Mixed well with cilantro and so good with white rice.
I should have known it was good when there was a line of DOORDASH people out the door and even their lo mein was good (came out early).

We came here for lunch, and ordered the fried chicken cumin dish with chicken and green pepper chicken. Everything was really good but the sign says they’ll treat us to a free desserts if reviewed, but the dessert is specific to the soup bowl, not any dessert. I think this should have been specified.

Great food and atmosphere. We enjoyed three dishes including smoked duck, boneless tilapia in chili oil, and braised pork in sauce. Our party completely finished the meal and the spice level for the tilapia and pork was perfect. However, the first dish arrived before the rice.

You know I can’t fault it since they offer both Americanized Chinese and also traditional sichuan dishes. Service is a little slow and the interior makes me feel like I stepped into an old Jackie Chan flick. But the food is not bad if you order the traditional things. The Americanized ones might be a bit more salty or sweet. Portions are small FYI. As expected of all foods of this location.

I had a terrible experience at Chef Tan. I ordered the duck for $23 and it came out with no sauce and like it was just mangled by a stray dog. It came with no sauce and was all bones. This was the first time I’ve ever sent an item back to the kitchen. I told the server I couldn’t eat it because I was worried about all of the bones and the meat being so dry (he had seen that I had barely touched it). The server said that’s how it came and asked if I wanted to box it to go…. I ended up paying and immediately leaving as they refused a refund. I would like to know if the chef would even eat this. Attached is a photo of EXACTLY how the meal was brought out to me. I thought this was some sort of sick joke. Needless to say I would avoid this place at all costs unless you want to be fed literal dog food. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I left a tip just because I felt so bad for any poor soul that had to work there. I hope the department of health finds this place soon for the betterment of any brave customers.
