The Wooden Chicken has been a roadhouse institution on NE Sandy since 1978. Our community of customers is built upon the local residents and businesses that patronize our pub. Whether it be a Sunday 49er game, a softball team post-game function, or a get-together after a round of golf, all are welcome in our doors. Known famously for our fish and chips, our menu centers on classic bar food, cold beer, and classic cocktails.

When people say they want old Portland, they rarely mean it… so if you’re looking for the best fish and chips that don’t require a drive to the coast, a cold beer and a shot… then come on in.
I discovered this place back when I used to be a shot girl in my twenties and I hadn’t been back till today, and I’ve been missing out.
The staff are fantastic, the service is quick and if you’re sitting at the bar you’re definitely gonna make friends.

Glad to see the Chicken back open. New owners are keeping the neighborhood watering hole open. We like the small changes to the menu. Always a good cold beer and wings are great for game day viewing.

Attended a holiday party here food and drinks were fine but the real stand out was the service. Just one employee behind the bar but he was on fire. There were probably 25 of us. We never waited long for food or drinks, he managed separate checks, and still had other tables to service. Just nailed it. Super friendly and personality too.

UPDATE: a year ago, I gave this restaurant a 1 star review due to poor service and flat beer. A year later, upon insistence by friends who wanted to have dinner here, I came back. Happily, I can report that my beer was delicious. Service was much improved despite a being busy. I had a bacon cheeseburger which was quite tasty, however, the halibut fish & chips that my wife ordered was amazing. I’m upping my rating to 4 stars.

My car tire blew out and my husband was changing it for me. We eat here all the time have for decades. Never had a problem with staff or food always perfect. I went in bought us a soda to go
The bar maid was very sweet snd friendly. While I was sitting in the car I noticed my kids had left some Chinese food in the car it had been sitting there overnight.so I notice their garbage cans but there’s one that says food. So I threw the Chinese food in that can. Instead of saying hey excuse me you cant do that , this employee a really shaggy looking guy throws the food in the trunk of my car. If hed have said hey you cant use that can I would have apologized and that would have been that. He never said a word. I wondered why he was to close to my car , I thought he threw something at it. Turns out he threw the food right in there. He was extremely rude and aggressive and sadly we will after decades of eating here , playing pool etc we wont be back . Im not a rude person and I won’t be tolerated being treated with such aggressive behavior when simply asking me to not use the can would have been a much calmer and better solution. I have a brain injury. I thought it was OK to use the one that said food on it. However that didn’t warrant the mess he made in the trunk of my car his treatment of me. It was completely uncalled for

If this is the new and improved version of The Wooden Chicken, the owner shouldn’t have done it. Some Resurrections should never happen.
The food it was average at best.

Good bar food, fish and chips Friday’s are awesome, love the beer batter that they use. They have beer taps displayed all over the bar( pretty kool) pool tables and even slot machines. They have carpet floors which I think that need to be removed ( but oh well ).
