Reviews
They have a terrific whiskey and bourbon selection. Good beer choices as well.
They have mocktails that were good.
Great decor and atmosphere, old timey feel to it.
Would definitely return.
You guys were phenomenal
We sat a the bar. The place wasn’t super busy but they had a good amount of customers coming and going. We had a couple drinks then ordered chicken fingers to share. They had some good sounding choices on the menu but we weren’t too hungry. They were part of the happy hour specials. They were hot and good. I liked the honey mustard.
The bartenders were friendly and personable. The atmosphere was easygoing and casual. They have live music Fridays and Saturdays I think. Better check the social media or website to confirm before you go expecting it and I’m wrong.
I would go here again if in the area.
We left without ever being acknowledged. The Whiskey Jar was great.
We visited on Sunday nights, January 11th and 18th, specifically because of Mr. Dearth’s reputation as an educator and advocate for aspiring musicians. While my son had a wonderful experience with the welcoming band members on the 11th, our experience this past Sunday was deeply disappointing.
Mr. Dearth was not present and unengaged for most of the night wondering in and out of the bar. After playing several songs, Adam was publicly addressed by Mr. Dearth from the stage. Mr. Dearth stated that participants “have to know what they are doing to be up here,” specifically telling my son, “By the way, I meant that for you,” before walking out of the bar.
This public shaming of a young musician was unprofessional and unnecessary. My son has worked incredibly hard on his craft, and this interaction has been More likely completely discouraging. There were many constructive ways to offer feedback or clarify participation expectations, but choose to publicly embarrass a student does not reflect a commitment to the musical community or the youth.
Despite traveling from a neighboring county to support the Charlottesville music scene, we no longer feel welcome and will not be returning and Mr.Dearth has made I clear that we are not up to his or Millers standards.
They always have lots of cocktails, and even some canned N/A mocktails too.
Really cool and quaint atmosphere and the staff are attentive and friendly!
Grab a cheese steak, a burger, or even Dave’s famous Reuben named after him.
Located within the Downtown Mall area, there are plenty of things to do, but Miller’s is a must!
I highly recommend grabbing a bite to eat, a drink at the bar, or hanging out with friends and if you’re lucky, catching live music!
