I am writing this review because of a very disappointing experience at this location.
When we entered the restaurant, several tables were clearly empty, but we were left standing and waiting to be seated. When we were finally seated, it was done with visible dissatisfaction and an unfriendly attitude.
When the waitress came to take our order, we politely asked for a steak. Instead of simply informing us that it was unavailable, she responded in a rude tone saying they did not have it. The interaction felt unnecessarily hostile.
This is actually the third time I have visited this location, and unfortunately I have noticed the same rude attitude on multiple occasions. We always speak politely and treat staff with respect, yet the service we receive feels cold and dismissive.
What concerns me the most is that the behavior appears different toward us compared to other guests. It creates the impression that we are being treated differently because we are not Hispanic or American. I truly hope this is not the case, but the repeated experiences leave that impression.
I have visited many restaurants across the United States, and I have never experienced service like this anywhere else. I hope management reviews this situation and ensures that all customers are treated with respect and professionalism.

I am beyond thrilled to finally have a Black Bear Diner so close to home! It has quickly become our go-to spot for a solid meal.
The first thing you need to know: come hungry. The portions here are absolutely massive. Whether you’re ordering the Bigfoot Chicken Fried Steak or a stack of pancakes, you definitely get your money’s worth and usually enough leftovers for lunch the next day.
The atmosphere is cozy, the service is always friendly, and the convenience of having such high-quality comfort food right around the corner is a game changer. If you want a meal that actually fills you up in a great mountain-cabin setting, this is the place! First time I visited was when I was stationed in San Diego CA I was thrilled when we got one!!

The atmosphere is great the food and service wasn’t what I have come to love. The hash browns were soggy tasted raw the salmon wasn’t garnished correctly and the kids plate was smashed together in a small plate. The server took our order had no patience and would leen on a post when she visibly became irritated. Not your best look black bear dinner.

It was very good food. Very well made fresh and full of flavor. Service was personable and kind, and fairly quick. There was a long wait to get a table and again between our order being taken and the food was served. From where I was sitting the food was piling up in the pickup windows. Runners had to wait while one woman made sure everything was perfect before being allowed to deliver food. The other thing was there was only one guy bussing tables and he bused one table went back into the kitchen came back out and bussed the next back into the kitchen and back again. At one point the hostess helped him and pushed two tables together for a party of 9 along the bench wall leaving one way for all four to get in and out. Two four tops and a two top table 3 tables total) What i really enjoyed was the food. It looked delicious and was. The biscuits are huge, tall and dense with great flavor. The crispy chicken Cobb salad was huge, the chicken Cesar melt looked great and the red mashed potatoes was good. The cinnamon rolls French toast was wonderful and sweet and just perfect. My sister liked the coffee and mentioned it.

I ordered an orange juice. I ask the waitress to be fresh. She gets mad, but they usually do is they squeeze the orange using machine and they let it sit from the morning. I asked her to give me a fresh one she goes. I have a couple of them already has been done and it’s fresh( which is not fresh). She did not understand the point. Waited get to order my food over 20 minutes.!!!

We first went here because we received a gift card for Christmas. We loved it so much we have gone again. Portions are big and food is quite good overall, although the tri-tip could do with a bit more seasoning. The chicken fried steak and the scrambles are fantastic. Biscuits are perfect, doughy and hearty, and the gravy is delicious. Especially love the bread pudding ! They also serve breakfast all day which is great. Service is well paced and super friendly.

We absolutely loved our visit to Black Bear! The portions were huge and definitely worth the price. The hospitality was warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Every dish we tried was delicious and tasted homemade — you can tell they put love into their food. The cozy, rustic décor inside made the whole experience even better. Definitely a place we’ll be coming back to again and again!
Update on Our Black Bear Experience
We came back tonight for round two — because a truly honest review means you’ve gotta try it more than once! This time, I went for the Pot Roast Melt. Flavor was good, but a bit dry… until they brought the sauce out after I’d already eaten half. ♀️ Lesson learned: ask for the sauce upfront.
Now, here’s something we didn’t know Fridays are All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry night! My husband was sold instantly (reminded him of his hometown). The fish? Absolutely delicious fresh, hot, and perfectly crispy every time.
The only catch? You have to order it piece by piece. Great for keeping it fresh, but when you’ve got kids and you’re waiting between pieces, it’s not exactly the fastest dining experience. Still, smart marketing and worth it if you’re patient… or kid-free.

We had such a good experience at Black Bear Diner! I ordered the chicken fried steak, and it was so generous that I had enough leftovers for another meal. My husband tried the breakfast sandwich, which was not only large but also super tasty. We were pleasantly surprised that they really put some love into the kids’ meals. Both youngsters ordered scrambled eggs with ham and were given a generous portion. It’s rare to find a place that takes kids’ meals seriously, and we appreciated it! The diner vibe was spot on, and it brought back good memories. As for the service, it was good, our waitress was decent & we had a good experience. Overall, we loved it and will definitely be back!
