The food was extremely underwhelming. Maybe because I had high expectations? I have been to many, MANY Mexican restaurants across the US. Sad to say I was disappointed. Even the chips with the meal were stale. Food was tasteless and bland. Even my toddler who has never refused a food in her life didn’t want to eat. Very odd. Service was good, waiters were very kind. They were however, talking & cursing at the bar. The talking I don’t care about, but cursing in the very open bar space where the entire restaurant can hear you is another thing. Not so sure I will be returning.

It might’ve been busy, but Kurt was FANTASTIC! He answered my many questions with a smile, provided all our substitutions without question, and didn’t even have to write anything down! The hostess was also wonderful, but I didn’t catch her name. The food came out fast and hot, and every bite was as good as the last. On top of all of that, the prices were great. I wish I had a picture, I can’t believe how much food I got for 20 bucks.

I have visited Playa Cancun multiple times for business dinners and meetings, always paying with a company card. In the past, the food and service have been acceptable and I have never experienced an issue like this.
During my most recent visit, our party of four was served by Illeana. A 20 percent gratuity was added to the bill without any verbal notice or clear communication. Because I was not informed that a gratuity had already been included, I added an additional tip, unknowingly tipping twice.
My finance department flagged the transaction, contacted me about the excessive gratuity, and ultimately revoked my company card privileges as a result.
Automatic gratuities are not uncommon, but failing to disclose them is unacceptable. A simple mention from the server would have prevented this entire situation.
