Managed to get a last-minute reservation and felt quite lucky! The restaurant even followed up to confirm our arrival. The service was excellent—they even poured the sake for us. I loved the heated tray on the table that kept our skewers warm; it’s such a thoughtful touch. The menu has plenty of options, and though the place is small, it feels very cozy and atmospheric. The upside-down umbrellas hanging from the ceiling are a unique touch. One thing to note: it’s quite dim inside, so it’s a bit hard to take photos. If you’re taking a group shot, watch out for blurriness!

Had such a great time at Prime BBQ in San Mateo! We ordered the veggie fried rice, cucumber salad, mentaiko stir-fried udon with shrimp, vermicelli scallop with garlic, grilled oyster with garlic, and a bunch of skewers – shishito pepper, wagyu steak with uni, beef tongue, and chicken meatball. We also tried the Thai tea (with the cutest bear on top ) and a bottle of Kubota “Senjyu.”
Everything was tasty, but my absolute favorite was the mentaiko udon, the beef tongue skewers, and the chicken meatball.
Also, don’t miss their $2 lunch specials (Fri–Sun) for oysters, abalone, and scallops. Super cute space with Labubu decor and a big sake selection.

The food is great and tasty. The bathroom is clean not smelly. The only problem is the parking, you’ll have to find it and walk a little further.

They offer free ice cream if you leave a 5-star review on Google. But the food was actually terrible! We ordered the skewers, and most of them were burned, with visible black char marks. They also provided free kimchi, but it wasn’t fresh — it was dried out.
The grilled beef tripe was not only burnt, but also sliced so thin that it was almost impossible to chew! On top of that, the prices were extremely high. Maybe this is just the Bay Area culture!
A very disappointing experience traveling in SF

The gyudon (beef with rice) has the same flavor & portion as the yoshinoya froze pack ($4) and it was sale as $17!? Then I doubt how the other dishes were made. The lamb skewer was awful, doesn’t tastes like lamb. The chick skin tastes good but it was clearly made by frying instead of grilled as its dish name suggested.
The chive was surprisingly good with reasonable $2 price.

Vibe and atmosphere of this place is great. Food is very good. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone. Such a great yakitori restaurant in San Mateo. This is just an another restaurant added in my favorite list.

All the food we ordered was so good. The variety menu was kind of impressive, and we loved that it’s not Japanese but more Chinese. Order can made my own devices which is easy!
My understanding is that they are not accepting reservations, but I found a waiting machine when you arrived. It’s better to get earlier to check on your waiting list if you want to secure your table. No outside tables for dogs too.
The place was already very crowded – about to be full at 6pm on Friday night.
The customer service level was very good, and the staff was friendly and nice.
I agree that some other people said the food was too salty, and it was indeed too salty. I hope they can put more spices on the table and customize it themselves.
I love the dessert there! They do cook and serve very fresh

Asian owned Japanese and Chinese skewer place. Nice staff, the Japanese skewers were better than the Chinese ones. My favorite was actually the shiitake mushroom I forgot to take a picture of. The oyster and scallop were good and fresh. Got a free Thai tea with a cute iced bear for leaving a review, good flavor and not too sweet. (kinda sad only his head was left, looked like he was drowning! lol) The Wagyu and regular beef skewers had too many tendons, made it chewy. The udon had good flavor and chewy consistency. Cute setup and ambiance. Nice staff that check up on you periodically. Food may take a little bit to arrive since they need to grill them all individually. Complimentary Kim Chi and seaweed salad. Has a grill to keep your skewers warm. Scan the QR code to order. They are open late and have happy hour! They also give out free ice cream for a Google review.

This place has potential to be a great spot, but it has a strong, unpleasant odor reminiscent of a bathroom. The food was delicious, but it arrived cold on the second round. The service was decent, but it was slow. Considering the high prices and numerous service flaws, I’m not sure if I’d return.

Food feel like not that fresh, the fried food feel like from at least 2 hours ago. Food is pretty salty. Service is not that good, hard to find help. But maybe it’s the busy hour.
