The location is perfect, and the interior strikes a balance between European café charm and polished design. It feels intentional without trying too hard.
The service was phenomenal. Attentive, warm, and confident.
I’m often left unimpressed by modern twists on old-world cuisine. Too many places chase novelty and lose the soul of the dish. Kafe Leopold pulls it off effortlessly.
The spätzle and bratwurst with an over-easy egg was unexpected and outstanding. Rich, savory, and deeply satisfying. The egg brought the entire plate together in a way that made me want another bite long after I finished.
The quiche was clean and vibrant, with color and flavor that felt fresh rather than heavy.
This is a must-go in Georgetown. I’ll absolutely return.
I went back for lunch and, since it’s an Austrian café, I decided to order the schnitzel. Unfortunately, it was the most awkward schnitzel I’ve ever had. The meat tasted strange, and it seemed like it had been frozen and then reheated. It was terrible.
I would only recommend this place for breakfast and coffee.
Instead of acknowledging the issue, the server quickly took my plate away and never addressed it. I’m not sure if the concern was ever brought up to anyone. I’m posting this review, so maybe the pastry chef or management would be aware of this quality control issue.
We also ordered lemon pancake, which was the best out of all we ordered today. Lemon pancake was soft but chewy with right balance of lemon hint that stimulated appetite. It was good enough to eat without any butter, syrup, or jam. I tried it with syrup but then it became too sweet. I would recommend that to anyone to give it a try.
Overall, still decent option for weekend brunch and enjoy DC/Georgetown vibe.
I have tried much of the menu over time, and it has never disappointed. The desserts are exceptional. The Strawberry Fraisier is light, elegant, and perfectly balanced, and the Sacher Torte is a classic done right: rich, refined, and deeply satisfying.
The savory offerings are just as strong. The tea sandwiches are excellent and thoughtfully prepared, making them ideal for a relaxed lunch or afternoon break. I especially enjoy the pear salad and the watermelon feta salad, both fresh and well balanced. Their charcuterie-style shareable board is also fantastic and perfect for lingering with friends.
A special mention for the French Cosmo, which is absolutely delicious and dangerously easy to enjoy.
Service is always warm and polished, and the setting feels like a little European escape tucked into DC. This is a place you can return to again and again with complete confidence.
A true gem and very much deserving of its reputation.
Lex was our friendly server on his 1st night. We had enough time to chat – he’s a man with a fascinating background and an easy laugh.
Sit outside if the weather’s good, inside is fine, too. Leopold is tucked back from busy M street so it’s always more relaxing than much of Georgetown.
I recommend the sea bass, any salad, or the mussels
