We ordered the gumbo, a Caesar salad, a goat cheese salad, Gabe’s burger, and the GHE. The gumbo lacked clarity of flavor, both salads were lightly dressed and felt underwhelming, and while the burger itself was decent, the fries tasted as though the fryer oil may have been past its prime. The chicken in the GHE was quite thin and ended up being dry.
I share this feedback because we truly wanted to enjoy this meal and see the food rise to the level of the service and ambiance. There is a strong foundation here, and with more attention to seasoning, balance, and execution, the dishes could better reflect the quality and care that the rest of the experience suggests. We sincerely hope improvements are made, as Villa Rica would greatly benefit from a restaurant like this thriving and becoming a long term success in the community.
During this time, we watched multiple tables seated well after us receive their meals. The manager visited every other table in our section but never checked on ours. Our server was absent for long stretches and eventually explained that a large party’s order had been placed ahead of ours. Appetizer plates sat piled on the table, untouched, as we waited.
When the food finally arrived, three entrées were lukewarm at best. My uncle’s Caesar salad consisted mostly of lettuce cores with very few actual leaves. I took a few bites of my entrée and packed it up because it wasn’t hot.
This was my first visit to Gabe’s, and I was extremely disappointed. The service was subpar, the food was just okay, and the wait time was completely unacceptable. As a group of Black and Brown diners seated in the back near the bathroom—and seemingly ignored while others were attended to—it was hard not to feel dismissed and unwelcome.
If I could give zero stars, I would. I won’t be returning.
The crab cakes were the best part and highly recommend them. Coconut shrimp was good too, rest was just ok. $105 for 2 people seems a bit high though
Seemed like a place bouji people come to flex how much they can spend with their friends
