Upon entering Gabe’s, we were genuinely excited to dine here, as we had previously enjoyed visiting the Douglasville location. The service was attentive and welcoming, and the atmosphere was polished and inviting. Unfortunately, while the experience started strong, the food did not quite meet our expectations.

We ordered the gumbo, a Caesar salad, a goat cheese salad, Gabe’s burger, and the GHE. The gumbo lacked clarity of flavor, both salads were lightly dressed and felt underwhelming, and while the burger itself was decent, the fries tasted as though the fryer oil may have been past its prime. The chicken in the GHE was quite thin and ended up being dry.

I share this feedback because we truly wanted to enjoy this meal and see the food rise to the level of the service and ambiance. There is a strong foundation here, and with more attention to seasoning, balance, and execution, the dishes could better reflect the quality and care that the rest of the experience suggests. We sincerely hope improvements are made, as Villa Rica would greatly benefit from a restaurant like this thriving and becoming a long term success in the community.

I came to Gabe’s to celebrate my uncle’s 86th birthday with a party of six, several of whom were first-time guests. We ordered an appetizer, which arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and then placed our entrée orders. After that, we waited nearly an hour and a half for our food.

During this time, we watched multiple tables seated well after us receive their meals. The manager visited every other table in our section but never checked on ours. Our server was absent for long stretches and eventually explained that a large party’s order had been placed ahead of ours. Appetizer plates sat piled on the table, untouched, as we waited.

When the food finally arrived, three entrées were lukewarm at best. My uncle’s Caesar salad consisted mostly of lettuce cores with very few actual leaves. I took a few bites of my entrée and packed it up because it wasn’t hot.

This was my first visit to Gabe’s, and I was extremely disappointed. The service was subpar, the food was just okay, and the wait time was completely unacceptable. As a group of Black and Brown diners seated in the back near the bathroom—and seemingly ignored while others were attended to—it was hard not to feel dismissed and unwelcome.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I won’t be returning.

Waited over and hour to be seated. Order the rib-eye dinner. No steak sauce meal does not come with a salad. Steal was burnt. Do not waste your time food is way to salty.

I ordered the duck meat that I usually get every time I go to Gabe’s. I took 2 bites and that was literally all I could eat. I used to love this dish, but it wasn’t good at all this time. Not sure if they have a different cook or not. My husband ordered the catfish and didn’t enjoy it either. I feel like something has changed. This used to be our favorite spot to eat. Very disappointed

Went here for a date night with my husband twice, The first time I got the shrimp and grits, it was delicious. We also got the crawfish egg rolls, they were so good. The second time I got the brisket and shrimp po boy, it was very good. Very friendly staff. Definitely coming back.

Came to check this place out due to all the good reviews. It was ok. For the price definitely a bit expensive for ok food.

The crab cakes were the best part and highly recommend them. Coconut shrimp was good too, rest was just ok. $105 for 2 people seems a bit high though

Seemed like a place bouji people come to flex how much they can spend with their friends

The staff was very nice, helpful, and friendly. We first sat in the outside patio section, but I got cold and asked to move inside. We were able to sit in the upstairs enclosed area. We were the only ones in there. It was nice to have a private dining experience. I enjoyed the appetizers more than the main meal. I will be back to give more info on the food and drink, but I wanted to give some information while it’s on my mind.

Today we decided to go to Gabe’s in memory of my mom. (Today marks 13 years since she passed) She loved Louisiana food, she would’ve loved Gabe’s! Michael was our server, he was awesome & took wonderful care of us!! Was so excited they had oysters on special! Had fresh & cooked oysters, both were delicious! All of our appetizers were fantastically delicious too! Finally tried the famous shrimp & grits and it was outstanding! My husband had a catfish po boy and he absolutely loved it! My mother in law had a delicious salad. Gabe’s Downtown exceeded our expectations with great customer service, making us feel welcome like family and the food was fantastically fresh & delicious!! We will definitely be back! 10000/10!

The service is excellent. The food is amazing. Loved the catfish po boy. I had not been able to visit here in a while. So worth the wait. The tables are comfortable and not awkward. This can be an issue when you are only 5’2. I will definitely visit again before I return to North Carolina.
