I had the rice nigiri which was pretty solid, for 9$ you get 2 pieces but for nigiri I was expecting more..: nigiri and less fried rice. The rice was fried and good, but took away from what could have been a good combination of complex flavors. Then I got the papaya and that was a good blend of sweet with a SLIGHT hint of spice at the end that stays on your tongue. I’ll say the food was good but not sure if I found it worth it the price point.
Had to get a digestivo so I got the Mini Negroni and well…. If you like mezcal and you like Negroni you’ll like this. No complaints it was exactly what I expected.
Overall, this is a nice date spot or a special occasion place when it’s not happy hour. When it’s not happy hour I’m not sure I’d casually walk in but happy hour has much more reasonable prices. Overall this is a solid place, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed but I’m not sure I can say I’d give it 5 stars for the price I paid. It is cool they include 20% on every bill too make sure the staff gets paid so can’t be mad about it that. Overall good spot but not somewhere I’d go casually unless it’s happy hour
The horchata was a 11/10!! it was not like Horchata I’ve ever had. It was made with coconut milk or cream and toasted coconut on top. The second one we got had rum in it and we should not have done that. It’s way better without the rum.
Papaya/mango app 8/10
Burrata & corn with plantain chips 10/10
Coconut rice 7/10
Tomato & avocado salad-6/10. The tomatoes themselves were perfectly ripe and delicious. The avocado purée was lacking
Papas(loaded fingerlings)-7.5/10
We were cruising along great, and then the entrées came. Four of us ordered the picanha with the chimichurri sauce. And all four of us were highly disappointed. I would give it a 3/10. The french fries that came with it 9/10. Garlic aioli-6/10 tasted too much like mayonnaise
The chimichurri sauce 7.5/10
The picanha 1/10. It was so grisly and hard to cut and hard too chew, that after sawing off three bites I was too frustrated and disappointed to eat anymore. For $50, this should have been at least a 7/10.
I would go back for the horchata and apps and shareable, but not for the entrees.
And the drinks – WOW! One of the best prickly pear margaritas I’ve ever had. We ate here weeks ago and we’re still talking about it! I can’t wait until we come back!!
The ceviche was mind blowing. So good (quite spicy though!)
The pulled pork tacos were crazy: they bring a whole chunk of pork on the bone!
The churros were very good.
This place was amazing. Everything seemed very thoughtfully put together.
The dedication from all staff to clean, quality food and drink plus exceptional service with care and attention to individual needs is noteworthy! I popped in just quickly for a little snack before an event nearby.
I ended up staying for two delightful and FRESH cocktails: The Cucumber Marg (with some spice, as Becky the fabulous bartender informed me that any of the margs could be made with some heat…) This makes sense given that the majority of everything is made so lovingly to order. And I enjoyed a classic Paloma which was perfectly balanced, not too sweet and a little effervescent They garnished it with mint as well, which I felt was a beautiful touch.
I noted some food allergies and I might have forgotten or overlooked it, but thanks to the thoughtful staff being so mindful and asking, I left with nothing but a well nourished appetite and grateful for the delicious/nutritious options offered. Can’t wait to return and will highly recommend to all.
