We started with a glass of Prosecco, which was very dry with a clear lemon note. While refreshing, it leaned a little too heavily into an alcoholic edge, slightly overpowering its citrus freshness
The main event — the roast beef — unfortunately didn’t quite live up to expectations. The beef itself was chewy, lacking the tenderness you hope for in a Sunday roast. The roast potatoes felt like a shortcut, more “cheat” than treat, and didn’t deliver the crisp-outside, fluffy-inside ideal.

The roast chicken was much better being moist and juicy, however it was a small portion , one of the “chunks” was mostly bone.

The macaroni cheese was overcooked and, surprisingly, not cheesy enough, despite a visible cheese topping. It lacked the rich, comforting depth that should make it a standout side rather than an afterthought.

One practical but important detail: the plates really needed to be hotter. Given the generous portion size, the food cooled too quickly, which impacted on our overall enjoyment.
Verdict
While Mini Grill Glasgow has a strong reputation and an interesting wine selection — particularly the orange wine — this Sunday roast felt like a missed opportunity. With better execution on the beef, more care taken with the sides, and hotter plates, it could be far more memorable. For now, it’s a roast that doesn’t quite match the grill’s otherwise confident meaty identity
Scallop starter 10/10. Venison main 9/10 (sliced a wee but too thin for me).
Beef main 8/10 gravy was overpowering.
The place went from empty to packed within an hour. Struggled to get a hold of the waiting staff when it was really quiet. Good wine selection.
Deserts were also really nice.
Had to vacate our table as it was over an hour and half which did kind of put a dampener on it.
I would still return to try out a steak but would book for earlier time so hopefully you wouldn’t get chased out the door. Would still recommend as the food is really good.
However Saturday was really outstanding, Everyone is still talking about the food.
Special mention for the girl that served us, she made it even more special, the perfect level of attentiveness – even came to let us know we had some extra time with the table so we could enjoy another drink between courses. The type of staff that make people come back
The only downfall -Christmas dinner is going to be a disappointment after that!
Thank you!
We ordered the Tomahawk steak, £88, which comes with salad, 2 sides and 2 sauces. We went for:
Tomahawk Steak: Asked for medium-rare, but it arrived much closer to well-done. We mentioned it, and they replaced the steak – though it did take a while. To be sure, we asked for the second one to be rare, and it came out much better (swipe for comparison).
Chicken & Thyme Chips – Insanely good, packed with flavour and so moreish. These were the highlight for me!
Roast Potatoes – Crispy on the outside but a little dense inside. They had a nice seasoning, but they didn’t quite hit the same level as the chips.
Sauces – Red wine jus & Peppercorn – both were fine but nothing standout. They added moisture but didn’t bring much depth to the dish.
The staff handled the mistake well, replacing both the steak and sides, and took our wine off the bill, which I appreciated. But for the price and reputation, I expected a smoother experience. Even the new steak didn’t blow me away, was just fine.
I wouldn’t rush back, which is a shame. I’ve heard such good things about this place and the staff did their best to solve our problems.

however – the scallops were divine.
venison (above remarks) was superbly balanced with the beetroot crisps and jus.
