Valentine’s Day and my girlfriend and I were the first people here. Saturday morning 1130 no wait for a table. Laurie was our server and she did a wonderful job. Larger menu so it took us a while to select some food. We settled on ramen, dragon roll, brother Billy roll, and sashimi platter. They were nice and split the ramen for us. It was very good. The sashimi was very fresh and delicious. The rolls were some of the best I’ve ever had. Really enjoyed our visit and will be back

An immaculate Japanese restaurant, Sakura’s moderately upscale casual atmosphere offers a combination of refined classics and unique, sometimes eclectic takes on cuisine staples — mostly sushi. The seasonal drinks were well balanced and strong. The Beef Tataki was beautifully plated, with a light savory flavor. The sushi tasted fresh. I recommend the miso soup and gyoza appetizers as well.

The sushi menu felt a little long. This made it a little difficult to decide on an order. However, there also appears to be something for everyone. They also have a bar in the middle of the restaurant for those only seeking a casual drink.

DO NOT EAT HERE: very overpriced, below average sushi, horribly slow service, and dirty plates.

Came here for Valentine’s Day – called in advance and had a 6:30 reservation. After being seated, we didn’t receive waters for at least 5 minutes. Then, after we ordered drinks and an appetizer, it took 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive and another 15 minutes for the tiny portion of calamari to arrive. I asked the server to give us plates for the calamari, and he never brought them, so I flagged down a different server who brought them over – one of the plates was very dirty, but I was starving at this point so I just used the plate.

Once our sushi rolls finally arrived, they were okay. They were far worse quality than MOMO Sushi, and even worse quality than the budget restaurant, Wakame. Additionally, Sakura does not have a “nice” dining environment at all, the service was atrocious, and the prices are about double what you’ll pay at Wakame. This place is only good if you want to spend over $100 for the “hospital food” equivalent of sushi.

Overall, we were incredibly disappointed with Sakura. Having worked in restaurants myself, it is inexcusable that the managers allowed so many tables to be seated when there were not enough servers or cooks to keep up with the volume of customers. Additionally, when I worked as a server, it was ingrained in me to make sure the plates were clean before I gave them to customers. Sakura cut corners with understaffing and undertraining as they wanted to get as much business as they could on the holiday. I understand that this was their business decision, but I will absolutely not return here.

If you are considering coming here for a holiday or busy night, I highly recommend going literally anywhere else. It is not worth the expensive bill for a sub-par dining experience, when you could go to countless other places for a better dinner. I am quite shocked that this restaurant has over 4 stars on Google, but perhaps the quality has just dropped over time.

I read the reviews and was super excited to try this place. The food was mediocre and the portion size for $18 was absolutely absurd. That was barely a single small chicken thigh. Absolute disappointment. Needless to say I will never be back here again. If You want overpriced mediocre food and terrible portions this is your place.

One of the better sushi places in MN.

Some rarer items available like Uni and Fatty Salmon. Call ahead if you plan on ordering these as they only had one order of Uni left.

The staff is friendly and the service was great. They also have a full bar, so don’t be afraid to make requests. I rather enjoyed my Whiskey Sour (with an egg white by request). We will be coming back again and again.

Sakura is by far my favorite Japanese restaurant in the Twin Cities. Every time my out-of-state family visits, I have to bring them here. The food is amazing – standouts are the Yakitori and Negimaki skewers (which we get every time!). The sauce on the Yakitori is sooo good. You can tell they care about each dish they serve.

Service is also incredible! I had my birthday here last year and they even brought out a balloon to help celebrate. Very inviting and comfortable atmosphere.

I also have to mention the story of the founder, Miyoko Omori. So resilient and filled with love for her community. Congratulations on 35 years of Sakura! ❤️

Would love some more roasted eel right now! That might have been the best sushi roll I’ve had, and it was simply about the grilled eel for me. Cali roll was simple and fresh and delicious. Good Goyoza. Making me hungry again…would love to go back tomorrow! Would only recommend to update the table surfaces.

The food was incredible, the sake was wonderful, the service was great. It was calm and restful there, a nice environment. Taka was so friendly and gave great parking advice. Absolute 10/10!

Absolutely fantastic food. Quite delicious and great pricing during happy hour. They served it in a way that felt like we were progressing through courses, which was nice. The overall atmosphere isn’t amazing but it’s fine.

We had a disappointing experience. We were kept waiting while two other tables were served before us, even though we arrived earlier. The service felt unfair.
It’s also not a child-friendly place, which made our visit even more uncomfortable.
The cleaning needs improvement.
The fish was not fresh.
Unfortunately, we won’t be returning.
