Five star experience for sure! This place looks way better inside than it does from the parking lot. You must have a reservation to eat here! When they check you in, you’re greeted with a glass of champagne to drink while you wait for them to call everyone into the dining area. They give a detailed presentation before each course and wine pairing. Delicious courses full of flavor and the wine pairings were on point to where they really complimented each other. Lots of pictures of The Golden Girls around the restaurant which I thought was funny but beautiful decor overall. This would be perfect for anyone wanting to celebrate something special or just try something new. It is definitely pricey but well worth it. My husband and I will always remember what a great experience this was.

This place is amazing, perfectly set around the chef preparing the small, degustation plates. 9 courses and the menu changes every season. It is expensive, of course, but it is worth every penny, in my opinion. You can pick to pair every plate with a specific, sommelier-picked wine, or not, which adds to the tab, but it is worth to get the full experience. Explaining every plate we tried would require to write a full article, but let me tell you that everything is perfectly crafted, full of flavor. If I’d live in Houston, I would go every time the menu changes.

First i want to admit that this review is going to be a little picky because of the reputation and cost of this restaurant. Almost all of the food was fantastic. The experience was unlike anything i have experienced before. They really do provide a taste extravaganza. But, the scallop dish i had was way too salty. Everyone else in the group loved theirs so i was just unlucky i suppose. An option you have when you walk in the door is whether you want the wine pairings. My pregnant daughter and I chose not to and the attention we received from then on was less than i would have expected. Overall, the experience was really nice but for the price I expected a bit more.

Chef concept. Went for a big celebration and was not disappointed. For us this was a first time to experience a curated meal to this extent. What we appreciated the most was the narrative and the insane amount of thought and creativity that went behind each dish and ambiance.
Their dishes reflected each chefs unique contribution to their culinary expertise along with what they were harvesting in the backyard garden. Fantastic experience!

We went for the NYE wine pairing and tasting and it was absolutely mind blowing! The vibe was amazing, the staff was amazing, the stories behind the food and wine was amazing, and the food and wine were fantastic! It was our first time there and we will definitely be back again. What’s an even bigger plus is it’s just 10 minutes from where we live so it’s in our neighborhood and we didn’t even know it! 10/10 highly recommend!

In a tasting menu restaurant like this I feel like the most important thing next to the food is the vibe. You feel very welcome here. You are encouraged to eat the dish how ever you want to eat the dish. It’s elevated food without the feel of needing to act the part to eat here. The food was awesome and Greg was exceptional at not only pairing the drinks, but also giving a wide variety of regions and types of drink. Javier and Rico were awesome at explaining beyond what the dish was, but also why they did it and where the parts came from. Their team was fabulous the whole time. We will be back as soon as we see the menu change again

This is no ordinary restaurant. The food is excellent and Greg, the sommelier, is a genius. Do not pass on the wine package! But it’s the interactive concept that sets Degust apart. You feel like you’ve had the best food ever with friends.

tldr; Degust is meh and amateur in almost every aspect, while pricing itself and presenting itself as something far more.
Where to even begin.
Nothing about Degust cohesively expresses anything, has any sort of opinion (other than the wine, more on that later).
The food is okay. Sometimes, you can tell what a chef is trying to do with a tasting menu, but they just don’t quite execute on it. At Degust, we had no idea what the chef was trying to do. One or two dishes that were standouts, but most of the dishes were uninteresting and felt repetitive – the same textural elements over and over again, with standard flavor profiles.
The service was truly not good. While waiting in the waiting lounge, they had real trouble serving the amuse bouche, multiple were dropped, causing several guests to not receive theirs, but there was zero acknowledgement, apology, or replacement. Pacing was sloppy, the switch between courses rough, the explanation for each course was overdone.
The atmosphere was meh? The initial waiting lounge feels like a poorly decorated escape room. The music was quirky (not a bad thing) but was too loud. The design of the counters make it hard for groups of 4 or more to have any sort of real conversation together, especially given the loud music.
One highlight was the wine program. The short list was interesting, the pairings were highly opinionated but excellent. The somm takes risks, tries to have fun with it, and it works! That said, he really comes off a bit poorly in attitude, but can’t fault his wine selections.
Afterwards, we complained to a few local friends. Turns out, every single one of them also had atrocious experiences at Degust as well, going so far as describing it as one of their single worst dining experiences in Houston. We really should have asked before we went.
Overall, is Degust BAD? It’s…okay. If we had paid half the price for the food, if it toned everything down, if the reviews were mixed going in, we would have probably walked out feeling like it was a decent attempt by a fledgling team that needs to take a step back, go back to stage at a few more modern 2* and 3* restaurants, refine their menu with a pop up, and get a better ops team.
But no. Instead, we walked out almost mad. Why is it priced this high? Why are the public reviews so glowing? How could the delta between what it tries to come off as and what it actually is be so large?
Save your time. Save your money. Don’t go to Degust. If you want to support them, go next door to their cocktail bar instead.

We had an amazing experience at Degust! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The food was superb and the plate descriptions were fun and tasty. We will definitely plan to come back and share the experience with friends and family.

This is a unique experience that you must try in Houston. From the elegant plate decor with the most amazing food. The chefs explain each dish with a story behind it. I celebrated my 40th with my 11 girls. We enjoyed every minute of it. By the 8 course you are gonna be full. So go empty stomach
