I enjoy Indian food and feel that we have a reasonable selection of decent Indian Restaurants in the Greater New Orleans area and we all have our favorites. Having said that, I’ve also traveled a lot internationally and have had the pleasure of tasting Indian food that has been on a whole other level of deliciousness.
I only became aware of Mantra Indian Cuisine about a year ago after visiting a medical facility in that area and it instantly became my favorite Indian Restaurant. For the items that I usually get, Mantra was head and shoulders better than any other local Indian cuisine I’ve ever tried and by a lot.
When I saw a few months ago that they temporarily closed and that there was a split which ended up with this Metairie location (now Mantra “Original” Indian Cuisine) re opening recently and another Mantra Indian Cuisine opening soon in Mandeville, I was concerned that I may lose access to the best Indian food in town.
Well, today I went to try the newly re opened and re named Mantra Original Indian Cuisine at the same location at 3116 S I-10 Service Rd W, Metairie, LA 70001 to see how the food was.
I am happy to report, at least for my palate, that for the items that I normally order, the food was exactly the same and just as good as before. I noticed no difference in the taste or appearance and found everything absolutely delicious exactly as it was before.
I ordered my normal: Chicken Tikka (clay oven), Chicken Tikka Masala which came with basmati rice and a plain naan.
The interior looked pretty much the same to me as before.
The service was very friendly and efficient and everything was well packaged to go very well, same as before.
I also became aware that they now offer a daily lunch buffet which looked really good with plenty of selections.
So at least in this first experience since re opening, the food at this location was again excellent and more importantly looked and tasted exactly the same as before.
If the other location that is opening up in Mandeville also maintains the same quality as before, the folks on the Northshore will be in for a great treat!

I’ve eaten here at Mantra several times now and have found it to be consistently good. The staff is friendly and helpful, and always kept our glasses filled.
This time I had the buffet. The Chicken Masala was my favorite, and was mild with just a hint of heat. The Chilli Chicken had quite a bit more heat, and the Tandoori chicken cranked that higher.
My wife’s favorite was the chicken Biryanis, and my daughter liked the Malai Methi Matar.
Dessert was mint chocolate chip ice cream with some warm Gulab Jamun poured over it. The Gulab Jamun added a warm sweetness like a crisp cake with a honey sauce, an excellent addition to a staple dessert.
The atmosphere here is family friendly. The water glasses add a more formal flair. Seating is a bit limited, but we were a party of nine and they made room. There is seating for more than 50 and it’s never been full when we’ve come.

Incredibly wonderful don’t miss the opportunity to give your taste buds vacation. The goat curry I’ve tried here is the best I have ever tried. Staff is very friendly too and took good care of us.

We went on a weekend lunch buffet and felt the food was delicious and best value for money. The kids ate for free since they do not charge kids under 13 , which was amazing . The staff were very friendly as well which made the whole experience memorable. Would definitely recommend this place .
