Tapa Taco is a unique and delicious dining experience. If you want to experience different flavors and tasty South American cuisine, this is your best bet! Tacos are done in a way that makes them stand out in presentation and flavor. Definitely not a run of the mill taco. Besides the world class tacos other things to experience, in my opinion, are the guava black bean dip, fallo’n, arepas, empanadas, shrimp ceviche, seafood paella, seco de chivo, lobster mac & cheese, Argentinian steak, coconut chicken and especially the shrimp encocado. The dining room is bright, warm and welcoming and the decor involves South American pride, as it should. South American art and artifacts create a decor of discovery. The staff is friendly and attentive and the cold food was served cold and the hot food was served hot which was noted and appreciated. Tapa Taco really should be on your restaurant rotation to help support a delicious part of the variety within the local cuisine. Well done to the ownership and staff at Tapa Taco, keep up the exemplary job! KUDOS!

‘Becks’ Review! Ahhh Tapa Taco how we miss you already! Had an amazing Valentines Day with my forever date Byron! ❤️ We drove from Chicago to Union Pier to celebrate! The restaurant’s atmosphere was full of love! Our server was sweet and kind, we also saw Nate and he waved from a distance as he flew around the dining room floor making bellies happy! Bravo to Chef Eduardo (again) for making everything fire We left full to the brim! Next time we will stop for a drink with Geon at the Bar!! Sorry spelling phonetically G!
We ate Argentinian Steaks with roasted veggies y un llapingacho (Ecuadorian potato patty). Yum yum I think when no one was looking we licked our plates! lol For apps we ordered platano maduros con empanadas de carne.
All of your smiles contributed to our lovely night! You’ve made this Ecuadorian girl so happy! Building memories to last a lifetime. Thank you for producing such culinary diversity for Union Pier! Bring that 2nd location to Northwest side of Chicago por favor! We need Chef’s flavors here! See you in August when we return for lazy summer dayz in Union Pier xoxo Sincerely xoxo Michelle & Byron Beck!

We recently dined at this hidden but welcoming spot and were thoroughly impressed with our experience! The food was delicious—full of flavor and clearly made with fresh, quality ingredients. We ordered the fish taco dinner and the pork taco dinner, and both were deliciously seasoned and satisfying. The chips and guacamole were the perfect starter—crispy, creamy, and addicting—and the fried plantains, cilantro rice, and beans rounded out our meal perfectly.

For dessert, we treated ourselves to the churros with chocolate sauce, which were warm, crispy, and just the right amount of sweet. A perfect ending!

The menu offered a great selection of food choices, making it easy to find something for everyone. Prices were fair for the quality and portion sizes. The restaurant offers both indoor seating and a screened-in patio area, creating a cozy, flexible dining atmosphere. There’s also a separate bar area, and the night we visited, they had live music—an engaging performer added to the lively vibe of the evening. The service was fine and the young lady was attentive.

The only downside of the night was the margarita. It was smaller than expected and lacked the flavor punch we hoped for, especially considering the price.

Overall, this was a fantastic dining experience, and I would definitely recommend trying this restaurant. We were staying at the hotel and we did order from the restaurant twice making it very convenient for hotel guest who don’t want to leave to have a nice dinner. Come hungry and ready to enjoy!

A very convenient and tasty place to have so close to the beach. We grabbed take out so we could enjoy the sunset. The food was good, but a bit greasy, which I want to tack on to it being take out. The seafood arepas were really good. I was hoping the steak tacos would come with a little more in them. Chips and Guac were great.

This restaurant caught everyone in our party off guard. We were expecting mediocre bar food and discovered the best food available on the Lake Michigan shoreline. The Rope Vieja was a standout for me – served with seasoned black beans, green rice and fried plantains. My wife loved the coconut chicken and the kids devoured the pulled pork tacos and house paella. The fresh-made guacamole was also great. You must try this place.

An eclectic South American menu—so expansive and delicious-looking we’ll be back tomorrow, too. The tacos were solid, veggie paella very fresh and not crusty, but the standout was the tropeiro—of Brazilian origin: imagine a feijoada meets bi bim bap. (Tasty!)

This is a very quaint location, looks more like a house than a business. While this establishment was a decent choice for food, I don’t think I’d recommend it over other nearby options.

I’ll preface my review with the fact that I managed a restaurant for years, so I may be a little critical.

I was greeted by a hostess that was on their phone. After they finished their message, they looked up to greet me. I sat in the dining area near a window. The tables and restaurant were very clean.

My server was prompt for the first visit. I was asked what I wanted to drink before seeing a menu or knowing what type of products they had. When I asked, I was told “we have really good margaritas.”

While I appreciate the recommendation, I think it’s appropriate to offer non-alcoholic choices first, and make recommendations for alcoholic beverages upon request. This put me in a spot where I had to express that I don’t drink. Not a huge issue, but something to work on in my opinion.

It took a bit for my server to make it back for my orderm I ordered Carne Tacos and chips and salsa.

The food came FAST, and was very fresh. The meat cuts were delicious, but the flavor of the meat was muted by the overwhelming pickled onions. The corn tortillas were soggy and oily, but tasted okay.

The black beans were slightly spicy, and very good. The rice was rice The salsa was good, but a little heavy on cilantro for my liking, and the chips were over salted.

Overall I did enjoy my meal, but couldn’t help but notice a few things that didn’t quite meet my liking. I think the salty foods are likely much tastier with one of the margaritas I was recommended

If you’re in the area, this location may be worth the visit if you’re looking for a laid back environment that’ll serve up some quick and tasty food!

This is an incredible hidden gem. Truly unique. Absolutely delicious House Paella, Argentine Steak, and Tres Leches cake. Wonderful service with attention to detail, very friendly, and knowledgeable. All this nested inside an historic Lake Michigan turn-of-the-century hotel. Wow!

On Tuesdays, the restaurant serves all-you-can eat soft shell tacos: flour or corn tortillas with a variety of vegetarian and meat options – all fresh and delicious. Great selection of beers, wines, and creative cocktails.

Highly recommend this place.

Stopped here for dinner while staying in the area for a long weekend. Great food, service and atmosphere. We had the steak tacos, plantains, empanadas and tapas size of the house paella. Everything was very tasty.
