My wife and I lost our Chinese takeout restaurant which recently closed so we were forced to find a new place. We recently ordered our food from New Dragon. I waited until I ordered food at least five or six times before leaving this review. I can say that New Dragon has very good food, it’s consistent in appearance and taste, and each time we got it, the portions were very generous. We order the pepper steak, chicken & broccoli, spare ribs, Wonton soup, steamed dumplings, roast pork fried rice, and roast pork lo mein , and all the dishes were very good. Their spare ribs are excellent quality with more meat and little fat and they’re covered in a delicious sauce. The people who serve you are very nice and you can see into the kitchen where the food is prepared and we found the kitchen to pretty neat and clean. I can recommend New Dragon.

This restaurant used to have dine-in seating, but no longer. The tables are all used for storage. So it’s a little dumpy looking when you enter. It’s now pretty much just take-out. So that’s how I’m judging it. As far as the food goes, it’s decent for a take-out place. It’s not a gourmet restaurant, but that’s OK. Sometimes you just want some basic noodles or fried rice, and this place does that well. Prices are reasonable and flavors are good. This is an authentic Chinese place, unlike some other places around here that pose as Chinese food.

Excellent Quality & Value
If you’re looking for excellent Chinese food to go at a good value then this is the place. There are slightly (only slightly) cheaper places in the neighborhood, but not at the same quality level. The service is quick and friendly. I’ve visited many times over the years and the ownership has not changed. The orange chicken and the steamed dumplings are especially recommended.

I love the dishes at New Dragon! My go-to order is Moo Shoo pork (sheikh is nice with some spice added) and some spring rolls. The order is always ready and the transactions are straightforward and no—nonsense. It’s not really done in so the atmosphere only needs to be clean and efficient, and it is.

New Dragon is takeout only since the COVID era. Their food is the best in the Hockessin area. It’s the only place that will make the food as spicy as I want. Other places dumb it down because most don’t like really spicy food as we do. New Dragon is worth the trip up the hill.

Fantastic Chinese cuisine! Hands down THE BEST WONTON soup this picky New York native has had in Delaware (and PA) You can’t go wrong with their white meat general Taos and love the Broccoli with garlic sauce as well!
